I do not think an infinite zoom out is necessary but sierra chart in its current form does not allow much of a zoom out when dealing with high granularity time frames which increases the work load for a trader to keep up with where levels from say 3 hours ago are without keeping more charts open which all adds up to hogging more resources. Being able to zoom out and compress the same time fram charts would be a new much sought after and fantastic addition since with the current volatility the markets are moving in such enormous amounts quickly. again even 3 to 5 x the current zoom out levels would be great. I do not trade noise that much so using a 1 second chart is not that great for me but lets use it as a starting point for measurement. How many 1 second bars can we fit into a high def monitor at 1080? lets use this as out base? I am sure you can just use the monitors native resolution and get these same human eyeballing and measuring answers but i want to see it and learn from actually doing the visual measure. 1. set bar spacing to the lowest possible amount 2. set time to 1 second interval 3. using a 27 inch monitor at 1080 p (1080 + 720 ) = wallah 1800! 4. font sizze or bar width set to smallest this is what i get max zoom out of 31 minutes and 12 seconds of bars so 31 x 60= 1,860 +12= 1,872 bars is the maximum horizontal that i can display at one time. or roughly 31 minutes of time. if you go to 2 seconds it should be roughly 62 minutes of time so lets check and see. it checks out to roughly 60 minutes with some error based on my vision and my stretch on my screen but you can use the 1,872 bars roughly x your time frame to understand how much time you are seeing. 2 seconds = 1872 x 2= 3744/60 (seconds in a minute) = 62.4 minutes 10 seconds x 1872= 18,720/60= 312 minutes / 60 = 5.2 hours. ( this checks out visually) A fast work around and i hope you have good vision would be to get a 4k monitor with a higehr resolution which give you more pixels to draw on. so a 1 second on my 4k 27 in max horizontal and it is very small to see is roughly 3,853 seconds on a 4k monitor. or 1 hour and 4 mintues. again there is error due to fonts and alignments and my number of zeros on my scale size etc. so take knwoing ltos of errors. again i am not one who understands monitor resolution all that well so im sure if you know the resolution then that is the max bar displat assuming sierra lets you get down to one pizxel but then you may run into pixel widths or dots etc but im speaking out of my league. Basically from what i see a 4k monitor will give you a little over 2x as many 1 second bars or 64 minutes worth of 1 second chart without a scroll. Hope this was helpful in some way or form. ha. anyway allowing some overlap or whatever some other platforms due to compress an entire day of 30 second charts into any window size i create on my screens would be really nice added feature. |
