To start with, do NOT change the data folder for the sub-instance. This will only cause problems. Each sub-instance needs to have its own data folder. All you should need to do is to open the Sub-Instance and it will automatically connect to the primary instance to get the data. There is nothing you should do with regards to this. You will not see the [M] symbol in a Sub-instance as it is not natively getting the data from our servers, but as long as your Primary Instance is getting the data from us, then the sub-instances are as well.
