Nothing has changed which is actually causing any real performance issue.

The performance is actually improved.

We suspect the issue is what is explained here in the first note for 2187:

What is happening, is file compression is being performed by the operating system in the background. Depending upon the speed of your system and drive, will affect how long it will take to complete.

That is what is causing the performance issue. It is the operating system compressing files in the background. Normally this should just simply take no more than a few minutes.
