The files are not read-only. If you are changing the data folder to be the same as another instance (including the main instance) then what happens is that the market data in the file becomes twice what it should be. Each instance has to have its own set of files. This is an integral way that Sierra Chart works and is not going to change. But we will be working on sub instances to be able to access market data direct from our servers for our own market data services, this would not include CQG, and not have to take it from the main instance. This will effectively accomplish what you want because as long as you are not looking at the symbol in the main instance, there will not be another copy of it.
