Report about problem described in post #91:

January 3, 2014.

Today we had some reports of people not getting data for the NQ and EMD symbols when using the Sierra Chart Real-time and Historical Futures data feed. This is designed to be a very reliable service with extremely high availability.

CME multicast channel 15 which carries the NQ data as well as some other symbols, on January 1 through the morning of January 3, was missing a lot of messages as the data was being received from the CME, on one of our servers. This appears to have been a problem from the CME feed itself. We see no other reason for missing messages.

This was from our log:

CME:C(15): Missing 64 sequence numbers. FeedASeqNum=2339841 LastSeqNum=2339776. Switching to C(15) Feed A Feed A Down Feed B Down | 2014-01-01 07:15:27

Our feed handler did perform an internal reconnect to that Multicast channel in response to the less than normal activity on that same channel, but this was not solving the problem. We performed a manual reconnect and this solved the problem.

We are going to recode how the internal reconnect happens so it goes through a more complete reconnect. We do believe this was a problem from the source CME data feed. With the changes we will make, this should not occur again.

We have more than one server. If you are ever not receiving data from a particular server, reconnect with File >> Disconnect and File >> Connect to Data Feed to jump to the other server. The servers are accessed in sequence. The same thing occurs with historical data downloads, for every download, each download goes to the next server. There are two of them, so it alternates between the two of them.

So in summary, we have discovered the source of the problem and will be implementing a solution so it does not happen again.
