I’ve been exploring, and have been quite happy with Daryl Guppys’ Multiple Moving Average system, which mixes two set of EMA’s representing Speculative $ and Big $, and makes the trend almost impossible to ignore. (Studies>Add Custom Study>Kiwi’s stuff > Guppy MMA *or* Studies>Add Custom Study>User Contributed Studies> Guppy MMA) Part of his method includes what he calls the Count Back Line, for a heads up regarding trend change as well as a stop loss once onboard. In a nutshell it trails a line, (downtrend) much like Kiwi’s Trailing Stop, that keys off a new low, and measures back 3 higher-highs of preceding candles, with the current candles high as the starting point. Although Daryl uses it in conjunction with daily charts, and claims it is not an entry system in and of itself, my experiments using it with range bars/intraday suggests otherwise…quite nicely at extremes or supply/demand zones. I also really like it because it is entirely price- action based. I can write spreadsheet lingo (lets say a downtrend) for a simple trailing line 3 bars back that maintains the high 3 bars back as long as each succeeding bar is lower than the last…I get hung up trying to maintain that line when there is a bit of chop under it. After a couple days of trying…just can’t wrap my head around it. Wondering if any ascii~friendly users out there could create this indicator? It would be greatly appreciated, and you might find some interesting results with it ; ) Construction of the Count Back Line http://www.scribd.com/doc/147622648/Daryl-Guppy-Applying-the-Count-Back-Line-Entry-Trading-on-Volume-and-With-ATR If you’re interested in the Guppy method, Google, “Guppy trading” and you’ll find tons of info.
