This last one is with version 2726.
I am curious as to which version of the OS is being used. MS is in the process of pushing out Windows 11 24H2, which is known to be full of bugs. It is dribble-ware, with new updates on a regular basis. Susan Bradley of AskWoody.com gives 24H2 a DEFCON 2 rating (1 is the worst rating) and does not recommend installing it. https://www.askwoody.com/newsletter/ms-defcon-4-24h2-is-a-work-in-progress/ To see your version: Start>>Settings>>System>>About Stick with 23H2 until it is safe to update. You can install a free tool that will block updates until you decide. It is called "In Control", by Steve Gibson: https://www.grc.com/incontrol.htm |

My OS version is: Edition Windows 11 Pro
Version 24H2 Installed on 9/11/2024 OS build 26100.2605 But, I don't think the actual version of Windows 11 is relevant, for this specific problem, as the thread's first post date (January 2024) reveals. But still, if it is relevant, and there are identified problems with specific versions, these should be clearly stated, at least as things to consider for the software install. Have you tested SC with more than one SC application running and more than one monitor? Because this is my setup. Laptop with an external Dell display and 3 windows of SC (not instances, but seperate apps) running. |

If this is been going on for a year, then I would suspect the display drivers. Are there generic drivers you can try? Could it be OpenGL related? |

Thanks for the suggestion. But I have upgraded graphics drivers over these months, with no difference. Besides, as I've already said to SC support, "... I haven't had this experience with other applications (even with applications with child windows, like SC)" Additionally, there is no difference If I switch on/off OpenGL the setting in Graphics Settings. (if it was that which you meant) |

I have found a workaround, to solve the problem: 1. Open Task Explorer 2. Find process named "Desktop Window Manager" 3. Select "End Process" The screen will go blank for a second. The ghost windows will dissapear. I know it's not the most elegant solution but it's better than restarting the computer. |

In post #24 the only thing you did was minimize the main window. So the Message Log will remain in that case.

In the last part of the GIF I closed the SC application and the Message Log remained there as a ghost window. You didn't see that? |

Here is a powershell script to automate the process of restarting "Desktop Window Manager" (dwm.exe) to get rid of any stuck/frozen MessageLog and Alert Manager windows.
