At least this is incorrect:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 23 Sep 30 13:57 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libX11-xcb.so.1 -> libX11-xcb.so.1.0.0.~1~

You should have the following files and links:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 33M Sep 29 18:22 libX11.a
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 Sep 11 19:16 libX11.so -> libX11.so.6.3.0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 Sep 11 19:16 libX11.so.6 -> libX11.so.6.3.0
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 14M Sep 29 18:48 libX11.so.6.3.0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 19 Sep 11 19:16 libX11-xcb.so.1 -> libX11-xcb.so.1.0.0
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 48K Sep 29 18:22 libX11-xcb.so.1.0.0

Anyway your comments about the Proton are interesting. What they have done should be investigated more carefully. But it seems I am not going to do it because I am just fine with this 'patched' libx11. At least until now :)

I did a comparison between Windows and Linux/Wine SierraChart. The setup is the same as described in my post #318. Both setups were virtualized.

Linux is clearly faster than Windows. Or should I say the CPU% is way much lower in Linux than what is it in Windows (75% vs. 95%). Of course I can feel it too.

Anyway I just want to use Sierra in Linux because everything else we have is in Linux. Also we don't like at all that there is lot of stuff going out of the computer into Microsoft (?) servers even we have tried to disable everything. But this is an another story and is off topic.

any politicians in any country is cr.p, imo
i belive in education for every one in any nation
hard work on everyday basis makes a human real

XFCE is good and CINNAMON is super good
but those have no industry basis as development teams
these nice people might be retired at any moment or just drop it all

and lets imagine you are SC team Project Manager
so you should decide how and who will develop it
and you must be sure where and how it will be used
the Linux GUI mess is just awful to build a project
isn't it?

IBM is not better M$
and the reality is not so cool but it is the reality
mess will not work

how about XFCE? I wonder if the apple world folk will like gnomy simplicity and the techies and older windows world people will prefer XFCE. Do you see it as well supported into the future?
try it on 4k and the question will be out at all

If I exit your wine apps (SC is my only win app now) and wait a few minutes then open SC 2175 with the 3 updated files I NEVER see the problem.

If I exit SC and then reopen quickly, I quite often see the problem.

Thx for the info.

Are you able to compile the library by your self in ?

In some cases there can be a difference.

The latest version (2) is found in the post #312
Linux | Post: 235428

Then please check the library dates they are updated in the lib's directory.

Earlier when I tried running the script, I get:

bash: ./configure: No such file or directory

Is it as simple as creating this directory or is the make process looking for something else?

Start the script by
source create_x11lib.sh

Then at the point of "Press [ENTER] to make x11lib-1.6.12" press CTRL-C and do
ls -l

What is the output ?

As we can see the 'configure' script is in the directory where the script was interrupted by the ctrl-c. But still it says no such file. I don't understand.

We need more clever people here :)

Hmm.... could it be you don't have a 'sh' shell in the system. What it does if you give
echo "echo Shell found!" | sh

Edit
Or that error comes from 'configure' script. Then something else is missing in the system...

It seems there is something else what is missing in the system. 'configure' script should be debugged and it's too hard to do in here. Sorry.

Oh I see. Good.

Those messages are "normal". They are just warnings not errors. Old software and we using new more strict compilers.

It should work now.

Great. Now you have new libs in place.

But for some reason one of your symbolic links is bad.

This

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 23 Sep 30 13:57 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libX11-xcb.so.1 -> libX11-xcb.so.1.0.0.~1~

should be like this

seandunaway

You're right in this business tools doesn't mean anything. You can make money just by sending christmas cards once a year to your broker or fighting nanosecods in your high technology HFT system.

But we all are living our lives in different situations from different reasons and sometimes forced to do what we are doing. So it's nothing wrong to try to learn things as for example ertrader is doing. Nothing wrong.

We others should just give help when we can.

I learned a very long time ago that how much more you can give the more you can get.

Peace :)

@seandunaway - just to help to stop flaming: ertrader is a brilliant programmer, many people use and rely on the tools that he developed... he is coding for SC longer than I even remember. I definitely could not label him as 'clueless'...
Sad to see this attitude/style pop up again and again, when replies have nothing to do with questions that are asked.

Maybe we should open a new thread and leave this thread for politics and IMOs ?

How about "Linux/Wine bug #35041" ?

It has been a question of this

Thank you seandunaway and appreciate the support topdog and ticinotrader! topdog, ticinotrader, Kiwi and AlexPereira and all the rest who make this product even better are exactly why I started this thread.

Now let's get back to fixing this bug once and for all!

Learning, problem solving, making something better is REALLY messy, at least for me. However, I thrive on the challenge, enjoy benefiting so many traders and have met some wonderful people along the way!

SC on Linux/Wine is SO much better than on Windows it's not even a consideration for me to run on Windows!

haha. I didn't remember it was you who opened this thread. OP. Then no reason to go an another thread.

People who want to do more politics or IMOs can go elsewhere if this is not what they want :D
