Is there a way to completely lock myself out of the platform (and by extension all data feeds, accounts, etc.) for a specific period of time?

My broker says to ask Sierra Chart because he can't do it on his end.

If not, I'd like to request this feature.

A buddy of mine works on a prop desk and says he can just go up to the risk manager and have him lock him out completely for the day, since the firm takes daily risk and mental ability seriously (they don't want to lose money). If Sierra Chart could implement something like that on your end it would mimic what professional prop traders do, without having to rely on the broker being on board. The power would be in the hands of the trader.

Just a thought, and thank you.

Sierra Chart has the Trade>>Trading Locked feature, but there is nothing keeping you from unlocking if you wanted to.

A custom study can detect you trying to unlock, and immediately lock it, but the study can be removed.

I don't think there is a bullet-proof way to keep you from trading if you don't trust your own discipline.

Brother, don't lecture me on discipline. I'm likely way more profitable then you could ever hope to be. Thanks for the 2c worth of advice though.

I'm glad things are going well for you. I was wondering why you wanted something "bullet-proof". No offense intended. Sorry.

Apology accepted.

I deal with health issues that can sometimes affect my judgment. A drunk driver may think he is okay to drive, not because of lack of discipline but lack of mental clarity and perception into his own abilities. Having a lockout feature would prevent potential disasters (which have happened in the past). Most platforms and/or brokers have something similar to this, but it might be enforceable only on the backend. I use Stage 5 Trading but clear through Dorman and I don't have regular contact with Dorman. Stage 5 can't help me.

3rd party solutions are available, and I'm sure I could make something work on my end, but the point was to have this embedded in SC so there are no workarounds.

Best of luck to you in your trading/programming journey.

It sounds like an internet blocker could work for you.

From Perplexity.ai:

"Windows applications that can disconnect the internet with a time lock:

Freedom App: While primarily known for cross-platform compatibility, Freedom can also be used on Windows to block internet access at scheduled times. It offers flexible blocking and scheduling capabilities, making it suitable for managing productivity.

InternetOff: This is a free tool that allows you to quickly turn off and on your internet connection from the system tray. It also supports scheduling internet access and can be password protected.

Surfblocker: This software allows you to restrict internet access at specified times or on demand. It can block harmful services and allow internet access only to specific websites or programs.

Cold Turkey Blocker: Known for its strict blocking capabilities, Cold Turkey can be configured to block internet access during certain times of the day, helping users stay focused."

I've been using Cold Turkey Blocker for the last few years to block YouTube and other sites during the day (can also block programs from opening/starting).

It works really well, just the one payment no subscription.

Good discussion. I have already proposed a simple and elegant solution several years back to SC. It should not take more than few hours to implement this.

We have the password protect feature at each study within a collection but SC allows removal of a password-protected study without entering the password making it a useless feature for this topic. All SC has to do is prevent deletion of password-protected studies unless a password is entered. I had also proposed to SC engineering to include a password protection for the entire collection and give us the capability to ‘disconnect’ the data feed at the chart or chart book level. These are all essential features for algo developers imo.

"FC Trading Lock Manager" works the best. It is password-protected, so I was able to lock the settings I wanted with the password. I asked my wife to create a password and keep it safe from me. You can lock specific time periods, set the lock of Sierra for x minutes after each trade, etc..
