1) Is this true that we could convert all of SierraChart from C into Rust and get thereby make the system truly portable (chrome or web, windows, macos, and linux)? Probably not. Unless Rust can outperform C++ by A LOT, it seems like a waste of time. AFAIK, Rust has similar performance to C/C++, so the benefits (better memory protection, parallelism, etc.) don't appear to be worth the effort. Choosing Rust over C for new applications may be viable, but the number of C/C++ developers is about 4 times what it is for Rust. |
