When the Background Draw Style is used in spreadsheet study subgraphs (when non-zero in Formula Columns), it overpaints all other spreadsheet study Draw Styles. This occurs even if it is in a lower numbered subgraph/Formula Column. This behavior is not seen with other Draw Styles. Also, if there are two Formula Columns/subgraphs using Background, e.g., for two different time range highlights, both must be set to Ignore for either to not overpaint. Is this expected behavior? Change the Line Width of the Background style to greater than 1. So it does not occupy the entire column width. And the Background styles must be used in the lowest numbered Subgraph columns. So starting with K in the Spreadsheet. Everything we see, all looks perfectly normal. Nothing unusual. Changing the Width has no effect on this issue. A Width less than the chart column is vertical stripes. A Width greater than the chart column is the same as Width of 1. From the documentation: The Background Draw Style must be used in the lowest numbered Subgraph columns to avoid overlapping other Draw Styles when a study uses multiple Subgraphs.
This is not the case, hence this forum thread.Additionally, draw styles in higher numbered subgraphs are not displayed, even if they are not in the background's chart column. Also, if there are one or more background Formula Columns, both must be set to Ignore for any other draw styles to draw. Use attached test chartbook with its spreadsheet file to see the issue. |

We are going to update the documentation. When using a Background Draw Style, the entire study is drawn underneath the main price graph. So therefore, unless a Draw Style used by other Subgraphs within the study are going to still be visible when drawn under the price bars, they will be hidden. You can try increasing the width of the other Subgraph Draw Styles to make them visible.

Using 'Background Transparent' solves this issue for me, but I was trying to avoid the additional CPU usage. High CPU Usage | Inactive User Interface | Poor Performance | Long Time to Load Chart Data | Charts Reloading Often: 30.20 - Transparent Draw Styles |

Hey Sawtooth, there was another thread related to this a while. See post #5 there which points to some documentation around this which is related to behavior of Background vs Background Transparent. Why does DRAWSYLE_BACKGROUND cause DRAWSTYLE_COLOR_BAR to stop working? In my case the result was always use "Background Transparent", never use "Background"...at least for all my use cases. #YMMV |

Actually the solution to this is simply to use this study: Study Subgraph Reference And reference the Subgraph from the Spreadsheet Study that you want to draw as Background. Then you can set the Draw Style with Study Subgraph Reference Subgraph to Background and not on the Spreadsheet study itself.
