Hello,

I need to run multiple instances and would like all my charts to load automatically on startup. On sub-instance the general settings has Open files on startup option turned on and the file directory have the right path and my SC version is 2679.

2) Also I would like to know the path location for my chart drawing and studies from Main Instance so I can copy over to the sub-instancess.

Thank You!

I need to run multiple instances and would like all my charts to load automatically on startup. On sub-instance the general settings has Open files on startup option turned on and the file directory have the right path and my SC version is 2679.

We are not sure what the particular issue is. If you are missing a particular chartbook in the sub-instance, then you can copy that chartbook from one location where it is located to the sub-instance. Just so you are aware, when a sub-instance is first created, the chartbooks (and other files) are copied from the main instance to the sub-instance. But that is the only time, after that the sub-instance is completely independent.

Also I would like to know the path location for my chart drawing and studies from Main Instance so I can copy over to the sub-instancess.

Drawings are part of a chart, which is part of a Chartbook. So there is not a way to "copy" them from one instance to another, apart from copying a chartbook.

We are not sure what you are looking for in terms of studies. The list of studies available is the same in all instances, unless you have custom studies that you are using. In this case, you would need to ensure that the custom study .dll file is located in the 'Data' folder under the sub-instances installation folders.

Hello,

Sorry I didn't explain it correctly. Basically my chartbook in sub-instance 2 is not opening automatically. In sub-instance 2, I went to General > "Open Files on Startup" added my chartbooks which are saved in sub-instance data directory everything is fine until I save all and close the application and when I open next day my chartbook wouldn't open automatically for some reason the 2nd sub-instance is not being saved properly.

New Note: I saved few keyboard shortcuts in sub-instance 2, saved and closed. After reopening they don't work so it's not saving my work in sub-instance 2.

You should not have a problem with this. The Sub-Instance should be doing what you are wanting and it sounds like you have everything setup properly.

In the Sub-Instance, please tell us what the following items are set to:
- Global Settings >> General Settings >> Paths >> Data Files Folder
- Global Settings >> General Settings >> Paths >> Always Use 'Data' Folder within Main Folder

- Global Settings >> General Settings >> Paths >> Data Files Folder
C:\SierraChart\SierraChartInstance_2\Data\

- Global Settings >> General Settings >> Paths >> Always Use 'Data' Folder within Main Folder Is YES

Hello John,

The way I use studies is first I configure them as set as "Set Default" so next time I add I don't have to reconfigure (not talking about custom study). Also in general setting "Always copy config files to new instance" is set to YET but my study config didn't copy over to sub-instance.

Since you have the "Always copy config files to new instance" set to "Yes", this is probably causing your issues with the Chartbook opening and keyboard shortcuts.

To start with, are you wanting the same chartbooks to open in the Main Instance and in the Sub-Instance? If so, then keep the "Always Copy config files to new instance" set to "Yes" and make sure you have the chartbooks with the same names in both instances.

With regards to the Keyboard Shortcuts, make sure you make any changes in the Main Instance and then restart the sub-instance to get those keyboard shortcuts to flow down.

The other option would be to set "Always copy config files to new instance" to "No" and then have each instance setup as you want it.

--

With regards to the default study settings, we see that the folder that has the default study settings is not being copied even with the setting for "Always copy config files to new instance" being set to "Yes". If you are comfortable with it, copy the folder named "DefaultStudySettings" from the Main Instance installation folder to the top of the Sub-Instance installation folder (C:\SierraChart\SierraChartInstance_2). You will then have those default study settings in the sub-instance.

Thanks for the explanation. So it seems like as long as this option is set to YES "Always Copy config files to new instance" anything I modify in general setting will not be saved therefore on sub-instance 2 you can not have chartbook open automatically on startup, correct? So, I guess I will set it to "No" and if I need to copy/replace anything I will just copy/paste data files from one instance to another.

Hello John,

Love the simplicity of the platform and I really appreciate your prompt response.

Quick question regarding "Alerts" before market open I like to set 100s of alerts for different market/prices. It's very time consuming to set alerts in SC. 1st I have to click on Comparison, then alert number and finally precision since I set them on indicators as well so is there any way on earth I can create few templates and just right click and set?

The first thing we want to point out is that if you are using "Symbol Alerts" then you can always open the "Alert Manager" and right-click on an existing alert and "enable" it. Or you can double-click and modify it. This might save you a bit of time.

We do not have any way to have an automated method for setting alerts. You could create a custom study to help you with this. Refer to the following:
