Hi SC, I'm using your software from 1 year, give or take, and I'm finding it amazing. I deeply customised its appearance to suit my needs and coded some studies. I don't know of any other platform that allows all of that freedom for its users. Before SC I used several other platforms, the most capable of which was TV. Let me say, I don't miss anything of it, save for one single thing: scrolling and zooming their charts always felt like butter. I've never had to select limiting dates, just select the timeframes and scroll/zoom to when I needed. I do a lot of research and manual backtesting, so I go back and forth a lot on the charts, and I often feel constrained when scrolling SC charts. I always use multiple timeframes, 3 or 4, so my chart book is a little "populated", but I use very few studies and I don't use any transparency for my drawings, that I regularly purge when not needed anymore, so performance should be fine. Except that there's not the case. I have a very powerful computer, I also enabled the GPU support, but the data loaded in the chart book is just too much. In TV, you can scroll to infinity (well, if you pay them enough...) and the chart automatically adjust to the time range you have on screen. I rarely felt any slowdown. My best guess is it dynamically loads just the data you need on screen plus a buffer. Can't we have that on SC? Why must I set a data limiting for all of my charts? Let's say I have a weekly chart besides a 5 minutes chart; to see some meaningful amount of data on the weekly, I must load, for example, 2 years worth of data. Now the chart book becomes slow because the 5m chart automatically loaded 750k+ data point to memory, and calculated all the studies on them, that I absolutely don't need. Can we have the option to set a dynamic approach to data limiting? For example, the 5m chart can load X candles before and Y candles after the time that's selected by the global cursor, and that time is dynamically set by the cursor itself while it's being moved on other charts. I totally get that X must be >= of any lookback period of all of the studies applied to the current chart, but this is another topic. English is not my first language so don't take me wrong, this is just a humble feedback. I love your software. Best regards. |

tradingview cannot be compared to sierrachart, tradingvw is not in the same realm at all tradingview uses aggregated data which is inherently inaccurate by design sierrachart uses accurate tick data What youre asking is to have sc completely change the way it loads data into charts |

This is not correct. When you load 2 years worth of data into a chart, any other chart with the same symbol is NOT loading the same amount of data. Each chart is individual and only has the data loaded for that chart. If the 5 minute chart has 2 days loaded, and the weekly chart has 2 years loaded, then the 5 minute chart is only going to calculate the 2 days of data it has loaded. In addition, once an initial calculation is done, most studies are only updated for changes in the most current bar and do not recalculate the previous data. I’m aware that you can set different values of data to load per each chart but, continuing with your example, if on the weekly chart I click more in the past than 2 days, the 5 minute chart stops at the hard limit of 2 days. This, or I would have to re-set both the “from date” and “to date” every time I want to move beyond the limit imposed on the lower time frame chart. This is what I’m saying. If we could set both, let’s say, a before and after limit (buffers?) in the lower time frame chart and then have them offset around when clicking on a higher time frame chart with the global cursor on, we would always have just the useful data in the lower time frame charts without further intervention from the user. |

... @User484626 ... ...I also am celebrating moment when I got on SIERRA CHART platform for all the reasons you mentioned ...The reason you having "sluggish" affairs on your powerful PC is because we all are privileged to have THE VERY BEST DATA/TRADING FEED EVER CREATED in this industry ...NOTHING comes even close to this marvel SC TEAM created ...All said-of course we will have a bit of "chocking" because incoming data are bloody beautifully RAW and 100% !!! accurate and as that they will choke living hell of retails ...There are ways to have perfect set-up (I think ~$25k would be monthly fee to get Aurora Illinois USA data center 10Gb connection) ... ...What you are asking for would be having two versions od SC; one being RAW SC and other one being AGGREGATED SC (like other platforms) ... ...FYI...I am on 7 instances (9 monitors 34"); 128 Gb RAM; i9-12900K; 1TB SSD and two conn. 1Gb |
