I have been struggling with creating an active Intraday chart for S&P 500 (^GSPC). Firstly, I'm assuming the correct symbol in SC is $INX ? What I have created in my chartbook chart appears to be the (^GSPC) using $INX, however it is not active or posting current data. I wish to use the study to overlay onto my ESZ24 chart. If I replay the chart with the overlay study it works fine, but not when live trading. Where did I go wrong ?

I believe I have discovered one mistake I made in choosing the $INX symbol. I just noticed in review it states end of day. I am now replacing it with SPX500 which states real-time.

The deeper I go the more confused I get. The SPX500 appears to be based on options contract traded on the CBOE. I found the TICK-SP / S&P 500 but it appears to be an up down oscillator chart. Is there any symbol that delivers the values of the S&P 500 (^GSPC) that we can chart ?

The closest we have for real-time data for the S&P 500 Index is the SPX500, which is the CFD data from FXCM. As you saw, the $INX is only end-of-day data.

Thank you for your reply. I'm also seeing from some experimenting that the TICK-SP is quite analogous in it's nature to current S&P data. would there be a way to overlay the TICK-SP onto the current priceline study of a chart ?

Depending on what exactly you want to do you can use either the "Add Additional Symbol" study or the "Study/Price Overlay" study. Refer to the following:

Thanks John. I'll start my dive. BTW, I think I have been using SC for about 6 months now. Each day of use I become more grateful to the SC organization and you the people who stand behind it. You are an isolated island in a sea of Sharks.

Thank you for the kind words. We know there is steep learning curve, but we also know that the people that take the time find it well worth it.

I have been experimenting with the TICK-SP Mkt Stats and find it useful. I have not had success with trying to adjust the scale settings of it’s display though. It tends to appear enlarged in reference to the main chart. I did find that choosing analogous bar settings for the charts did help some what. I’m using the “Overlay - Single Line" study for it seems to work better then the other alternates. Hopefully that was the right choice. Any thoughts or guidance would be greatly appreciated. We are not exactly sure what you want to accomplish, but what we gather is that the scaling of the overlay of the TICK market statistics is not quite the way you want it.

In this case, we recommend enabling the option in the Scale Settings for the Overlay study for "Use in Left Hand Scale". Then turn on the Left Side Scale through the Chart Settings. Refer to the following:
Chart Settings: Use Left Side Scale (Chart >> Chart Settings >> Scale menu)

You can then adjust the scaling of that overlay separate from the main chart and get it as "aligned" as you want. You can then turn off the left-side scale if you do not need it any further.

Just keep in mind, as the main graph adjusts its scaling, the Tick will not. You would need to adjust it in the left side scale.

That is very helpful info. Was unaware from the documentation that by adding the left-side scale it would work independent of the main chart scale. Forest for the trees thing I guess. I never experimented with it for I wanted to conserve chart space. I believe you have given me the key I’ve been looking for. Thanks for the mind reading skills.
