[User Discussion] - What is the best, current, VPS for use with Sierra Chart for non-automated trading?

I trade manually. Latency isn't really an issue (non-algorithmic trading). I travel a lot. I set alerts at certain prices that I want to trade at, but don't like resting limit orders. I want an alert sent to my phone when price crosses a certain level. I currently use Sierra Chart and Telegram for that, but it requires Sierra Chart to be on, since the alerts are client-side. I have a laptop with me but for obvious reasons can't have it on all the time to run Sierra Chart.

I'm looking into a VPS to run Sierra Chart continuously, remote login once or twice daily to set alerts for each product (time and price), and then when I get an alert message sent to my phone via Telegram, remote-login again on my laptop to the VPS via iPhone hotspot to manage the trade.

Does anyone have good recommendations on what VPS host to use? There are so many, and while I've done my research, would rather hear it from someone who has been there and done it, and used it reliably for years. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just something I can run Sierra Chart 24/7 on for alerts, and not have it slow to a crawl when I remote login and place alerts and/or trades.

I'm asking both Sierra Chart Engineering and other users.

Money/cost per month is no problem, and I will pay what needs to be paid, but I likely don't need some 10Gb port with 24 CPU cores, if you feel me.

Thank you.

I can't say I've used it for 'years with no issue' but I did run some trials for about 3 months without a problem in the early part of this year.

I used Kamatera [ https://www.kamatera.com/ ] with the following spec:

Zone:   US-CH: North America, United States, Chicago
OS Image:   Microsoft Windows 10 Desktop 64-bit
(windows_windows_10_desktop_64-bit)
CPU:   1
RAM:   6144 MB
Disk #1:   80 GB

This was running a simple automated system on a few tick charts. It wasn't blistering fast but I would think it would be fine if you are talking about basically a watch list or a few charts with some levels and alerts and they offer a 1 month free trial.

Just my 2c in case it helps. :)

I really appreciate the answer. Thank you for posting. I wasn't expecting 1CPU to be able to pull that weight, but Sierra Chart has a pretty low utilization so who knows?

Few more questions if you have the time:
1) Did you do Dedicated (or one of the other options)?
2) Is the storage the amount you have after the Windows 10 install is complete or do you have to factor the operating system taking up disk space?
3) I may run 2-4 CPU (just in case) with 8GB RAM and 100GB of storage: $52/mo. What was your cost?

@trad

Dedicated server, i7-7700, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, unlimited traffic, and a 1-Gb port.

$41/mo. USD

I'm sold! Thanks for this.

I have a server in my house running Wireguard. It's fantastic. I trade remotely and there are clients for every os.
