Concerning cells j80 and j81 adding targets. j80 "for Attached Order Target Offset (write only):" Can j80 and j81 be used for targets and stops instead of checking the " use attached orders " box on the chart trade menu ? If so, how do you enter the amounts ? 15T ? 15ticks ? What operator do you use ? Equal sign ? spreadsheet trading is new this year for me and I have some elementary questions. Thanks |

Cells J80 and J81 need a value based on tick size. You must check 'Use Attached Orders', then use a formula that references the tick size in J21: =15*J21 this will give you an offset of 15 ticks. |

Tom I enjoyed your website. Can you tell me where I can learn more about spreadsheet trading ? I need more than the Sierra documentation offers. Also, if I have to check the use attached orders box, what is the point of j80 and j81 ? Wont I select those in the order s on the chart trade menu ? thanks Shane |

SC documentation is actually very good. It is comprehensive to the point of being overwhelming at times, but this is a good thing because you can did deep when the need arises. Everything I know about SC spreadsheet studies, and what I've shared on my blog, comes from their documentation, lots of trial and error, and an occasional clarification on this forum. So dive in, and play around. I don't know of any other way. The point of J80 and J81 is to allow the placement of Attached Orders from spreadsheet formulas. And with the addition of the Trade Management By Study study, you can even move them with spreadsheet formulas. Very cool. When using the Spreadsheet System for Trading study to make entries/exits, 'write' cells in column J override respective settings in the Trade Window. This includes Order Quantity in J26, entry/exit types in J71-J74, entry/exit prices in J22-J25. With 'Use Attached Orders' checked, if either J80 or J81 is not blank, the twconfig and related Trade Window settings are not used. With 'Use Attached Orders' unchecked, if either J80 or J81 is not blank, entries have no attached orders. |

Tom Can I ask how I could add a stop and target without the attached orders overriding the buy and sell entries ? When I have targets attached, the buy and sell entries dont work until a stop or target is hit. I am using a reversal crossover. Do you know what I mean ? thanks shane |

This can be done but do you want the Attached Orders canceled on the entry? They would have to be.

To accomplish this this you need to set CancelAllOrdersOnEntriesAndReversals to Yes: https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/doc_AutoTradeManagment.php#CancelAllOrdersOnEntriesAndReversals Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. It's not clear what you are doing, and what isn't working as you expect. Please explain further.

hi Yes , it appears the cancel orders on entries and reversals is what needs to be done. |

I have a buy on macd crossover and sell on macd crossover with reversal allowed. I take 2-3 signals between 10 am and 4 pm est on the russell. This generates good results for me , but I would like to add a stop to it. When I add a stop with "use attached orders", then after an entry, the next reversal signal wont trigger until the attached order triggers. e.g. I have a 50 tick stop and 100 tick profit set through attached orders. After moving +40 ticks, the macd crosses down, but the sell entry signal is ignored due to the attached order. I would like to reverse short in this situation. If I use exit signal, then I am out, but I am not reversed and short. I an sure it is simple, but I cant seem to figure it out. If the attached orders are cancelled on entry, then my stop is nullified. Perhaps it cant be done with a spreadsheet. Did I explain that ok ? regards |

I just tried this and it works fine for me, with or without using J80/J81. The attached orders are cancelled with the reversal and new ones are attached when reversed. I have no formulas in L3 and N3. The reversals are triggered by a TRUE in K3 or M3. Attached are the settings I used. |
