I can't change the chart setting "date range in file from". When I edit it, it just goes back to the previous value. How do I stop this from happening?

It depends on what symbol you are trying to do this for and how far back you are trying to set the date to. Most likely you are doing this on a Futures contract, which have a limited lifetime, therefore you can only go back so far. In order to see the data further back, you would need to use a Continuous Futures Contract Chart.
