Hello, I tried to create a Custom Study using the Analysis -> New/Open Custom Study Files command as described in the documentation but Notepad++ does not start (although the File open dialogue opens). I have also checked the path in Global Settings and it is correct. Please advise how to resolve this? The Notepad++ editor starts separately if invoked directly from the folder but not through the Sierra Chart ... |

I found this in a prior forum topic by SC support. Source code editor don't open The editor that is used when you select New/Open Custom Study Files is defined under Global Settings >> General Settings >> Paths >> Text Editor Path and Filename. Make sure this is set to the editor you want to use. There is a Notepad++ that is sent with Sierra Chart and is located under the main Sierra Chart installation folder in a folder named NPP, so the path and file name would be [Sierra Chart Installation Folder]\NPP\notepad++.exe. Refer to the following for more information: General Settings Window: Text Editor Path and Filename (Global Settings >> General Settings >> Paths >> Files and Folder Paths) Hope this helps, JohnR |

We are not able to reproduce this, so we want you to do 2 things. 1) Update to the latest release to make sure everything is up to date. Follow these instructions to update: Software Download: Fast Update 2) Check the Path for the text editor in the General Settings (Global Settings >> General Settings >> Paths >> Text Editor Path and Filename). Select this setting (on the right where the Path is listed) and select the "Browse" button that comes up. It should open a window set to the path in that field and show a 'notepad++.exe' file. Select that file and select the "Open" button. This will close that window. Select the "A" button for that setting then select OK to close the General Settings window. We believe that you have a capital 'N' in the beginning of the executable name whereas it needs to be a lowercase 'n' (notepad++.exe) For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing |

I have already tried this. I upgraded to latest version 2514 and paths and names are correct. Please see the attachments of SC Path Settings and the folder containing the notepad++.exe file. Results remain the same. The Notepad editor does not start ... |

We have had a few reports of this, but we are not able to reproduce it (notepad++ opens just fine for us). Please try again, and when it fails open the Message Log (Window >> Message Log) and look at the end of that log for any indication of why there is an issue starting Notepad++. Please post what you see in the log to this thread for us to understand/analyze. I think I have found the error from Windows Message log (sent separately to you). It says: Error creating process C:\SierraChart\NPP\notepad++.exe. Windows error code 2: The system cannot find the file specified. | 2023-06-27 16:36:20.367 Error creating the Advanced Custom Studies editor process. | 2023-06-27 16:36:20.367 Sierra is trying to locate the Editor in C: drive while it is installed in E: (for last many months it is a separate NVMMe drive exclusive for SC on my system). I changed all the paths as you could see in the attachment (sent earlier), how can I change this path ? |

Hello, still waiting for a resolution to this problem. As said earlier, Sierra is looking for Notepad++ editor in C drive while it is in E drive as the entire program is installed in E drive. All paths are set to folders in E drive. How could we resolve this matter or does it need a software fix ? Regards |

I have already updated to Version 2514 yesterday. I am not running this from any sub instance. By changing the editor location as explained above, I think the issue has been resolved as SC has Editor path stored at a different location then shows in the Global Settings. Regards, |

I have the same error. I tried to set GVim as my default editor, but SC completely ignores it. My Hotfix: I moved my SierraChart folder to C:\ so that it is able to find NPP. But I would prefer another editor. |
