Hello,

I am trying to create a new symbol but keep getting an error that symbol is no recognized.

The two individual symbol codes I want to use to create new symbol are:

F.US.ULAM23
F.US.USAM23

I go to Global settings, symbol setting and click on New.

I then enter:
{F.US.ULAM23}-3*{F.US.USAM23}

When I go to a new intra day chart and retrieve this new symbol, it states, "symbol not recognized".

Please help.
Thank you.

Are you able to get the data for the two individual symbols in their own charts?

Hello John,

Yes, both individual symbols load perfectly.

And you entered/changed all the other necessary items for a Custom Calculated Symbol as outlined here:

Only settings I have changed are as follows:

Security Type: Futures
Price Display Format: 0.001
Tick Size: 0.01
Currency Value per Tick: 1
Use Formula Operators: yes

I rebooted and left it closed overnight. This morning I am getting some data but no historic?

I did the below:

1 - I disconnect the data feed.
2 - Global settings--symbol setting--'Download Historical data for Formula' = YES.
3 - OK
4 - Chart setting--Data Limiting--'Days to load for Intraday'= 1
5 - Connect to data feed.

I notice Global settings--symbol setting--'Historical Intraday Data Source' = "not set", do I need to change this?

Thank you.

No you do not:

I notice Global settings--symbol setting--'Historical Intraday Data Source' = "not set", do I need to change this?

Can I just ask one more question re. efficiency.

1:
Is it more efficient from a Sierra Chart CPU processing point of view of me to create a new symbol or to use the 'Spreadsheet Formula' study?

2:
Is it more efficient to open individual chart per Symbol or to use 'Add Addtional Symbol' to an existing chart?

Thank you.

1. We can't say for sure, as we have not tested this directly, but given the nature of the code, it should be more efficient to create a Custom Calculated Symbol than to use the Spreadsheet Formula.

2. This is going to be about the same, as the data is the data. It's more about how you want to see it.
