I am trying to create a study to compare the previous 5 minute volume with the current 5 minute volume while the volume is building. I was instructed to create a 1 second chart and reference the last 1 second volume with the volume 301 seconds ago. I used the Spreadsheet System/Alert and for the Alert I put ID1.SG1[-1]>ID1.SG1[-301] for when the last 1 minute volume was more than the 301 minute ago volume. I selected Draw Style bar and color green. I get an error alarm and the Alert name in the region header turns red with an exclamation point. There is no green bar or anything in the region. Is there anyway to view the error I'm getting?

Thanks

1. Comparing the current second's volume with the volume 301 seconds ago is not the same as comparing the current 5 min volume with the previous 5 min volume.

2. ID1.SG1[-1] is the previous second not the current second, so this will not reveal volume building.

3. Spreadsheet syntax is not the same as Alert syntax.
ID1.SG1[-1]>ID1.SG1[-301] becomes ID1.SG1@4>ID1.SG1@303

4. Use a 5 min chart, and compare the previous bar's volume to the current bar's volume.

But I’m wanting the 5 minute bars volume to compare while the volume is building. So if the current 5 minute bars first second is 100 shares compared to the previous 5 minute bars first second is 50 shares then the current 5 minute volume bar would be green. If after 2 seconds the current 5 minute volume bar is now 110 shares(100+10) and the previous 5 minute bars volume 2 seconds in is 150(50+100), then the current volume bar would turn red.

So SC guys told me I would have to create a 1 second chart and compare the volume 301 seconds ago with the last second volume bar(-1) that is completed.

I hope that makes sense!

So you only want the current 5 min price bar to be colored; not any other previous 5 min price bars?

And you want to accumulate the volume from the start of the current 5 min bar until its end, and compare its corresponding cumulative volume to the previous 5 min bar's cumulative volume, second by second?

And you want to reset the accumulation of volume at each new 5 min bar?

Yes

The solution to this is more involved than can be shared in a forum post.
