for nymex crude oil i have set the rollover rule to: "number of business days before business calendar day before contract month" to 3 "business calendar day before contract month" to 25 and i have jun14 contract set to continuous contract "continuous futures contract - volume based rollover back adjusted" but this morning i still have jun contract as active? shouldn't SC tell me to roll to july or automatically roll to july? also if i manually change the contract to July and reload data i get a gap at midnight...how to i get rid of the gap? i have tried "edit- delete all data and download" but still have the gap what am i not understanding about SC and the continuous contract functionality? thanks |

According to those rules the rollover would be May 20. So if you have Chart >> Chart Settings >>Automatically Rollover Futures Symbol enabled, then there would be an automatic rollover when the chart is reloaded or the Chartbook is opened. Otherwise there would be no notification of this. If you rollover the contract your self early, the back adjustment may not function properly. So wait until tomorrow and let us know if you notice a gap. I do NOT have 'automatically rollover future symbol" but I am pretty sure if i open the chart tomoro it will say roll to next contract?and if i choose to NOT use a rollover rule by using "volume based rollover back-adjusted" wouldn't SC alert me to the rollover due to the volume change? and you mention above: if you rollover the contract yourself early, the back adjustment may not function properly but how do i know if i am rolling too early? (or in this case i am too late as volume shifted to CL july on thurs or friday last week but i am still on june) wouldnt something in SC tell me to roll since volume has shifted?thanks |

Actually, you are right. There would be a notification on the chart about rolling over. We forgot about the on chart message that appears. Sierra Chart will never notify about a rollover based on volume. It makes no such analysis when it comes to notifying about the current symbol. This is too unreliable. You know you are too early if you do not see the message on the chart indicating that the symbol requires rollover. It is OK if you are too late. That will not cause a problem. Rollover notifications are strictly based upon the date rules and nothing else. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users.
