When purchasing a new PC, most will have a smaller SSD and a larger HDD. Is the SSD just for the operating system or can I install Sierra Chart on the SSD also? Will 512GB be big enough for the operating system and Sierra CHart?

Also, I seem to remember someone speaking about graphics cards, Is Nvidia recommended or will all graphic cards work well?

Thanks

Yes this is fine:

However, we recommend you get a separate SSD just for Sierra Chart. In particular a NVME storage device.

Nvidia for graphics would be fine.

I haven't found any computers that offer 2 SSD, most are usually 1 SSD and 1 HDD. Is the only way to get 2 SSD's is to build it yourself? I know I can go external but I'm afraid of them accidentally coming unplugged.

Thanks

You just simply add one. Make sure to get a mainboard, that can accept at least 2 NVME drives.

When I retire my current computer, do I need to uninstall SC? I think I recall you can only have 2 instances of SC, will my old computer show up as one instance even though I'm not running it?

Thanks

You do not need to delete it, as it will not show as an instance. It is only when the software is actually running that it counts as an instance.

If I may add (ask) instead of starting a new thread. So should I go 100% NVME one for the operating system and other programs and then install Sierra on the a separate NVME (program and datafiles) and forego the SSD altogether. I am building my own new system and getting the components now. If so size recommendation of NVME (was going to do 1GB each or would 512MG suffice for sierra). If I did add a SSD it would be for backup only, plus an external for backup.

Also was going to go with 16 core AMD, 32GB RAM and likely AMD video card(s) 6 monitors. Or possible NVIDIA card(s). Opinions please.

Thank You.

It's really a personal choice on what to do for the main drive. Sierra Chart does a fair amount of reading and writing with the data, so that is why the fastest drive possible is important, and why we recommend NVME.

With regards to the video card, you will want to get NVIDIA. AMD video is known to not support the OpenGL graphics as well as NVIDIA, and we have support for OpenGL graphics within Sierra Chart, which helps offload processing for the graphics to the graphics card instead of the main processor.

Thanks for the information. So I should install the Sierra program and data on a separate drive from the Operating system or does it have to be installed on the same drive as the operating system.
