DOM and Chart Trading - Quantity Not Sync Sometimes

Hello Sierra team,

Hope you're doing good. I usually place my orders in the DOM, but sometimes, on the chart as well. My DOM and my chart are in 2 different windows and my Trade Window is attached to the Chart so I can keep my DOM with minimal items. As shown in the attached screenshot. I've linked both windows to Link Number "1" with the Trade Window checked. I've noticed that sometimes, maybe 70% of the time, when I change the quantity on the Trade Window, it doesn't take effect right the way on the DOM.

For example, if I've used 2 as the number of quantities and now switched to 1 and submit an order using the DOM window, the first time, it might still use 2 as the number of quantities. If I submit another order again on the DOM, that second order will have 1 as the quantity. As mentioned, it doesn't happen all the time, but it happens more often than not. From what I've tested, if I trade using the chart itself, it works fine - it takes effect right the way. I am testing using the Trading Evaluator - not sure if that would make a difference.

Thanks for testing it out when you have time.

Maybe there is a conflict with another chart using the same Link Number. Use a different Link Number.

Like 10 for example. And make sure the Trade Window Chart Linking option is enabled for both the Chart and the Trading DOM.

Also this is not a problem we would be able to reproduce.

Thanks for testing it out. I tried what you've suggested and it seems to still be a hit and miss.

However, here's something I've just tried that causes me to think it could simply be a delay issue. If I click on a quantity from the Trade Window, which is attached to a Chart window, and wait 5 seconds before I submit an order in the DOM, it would have the right quantity. If I submit an order quicker than that, it may or may not have the right quantity. I've set up a keyboard shortcut for each quantity and if I have the DOM window selected and use the shortcuts to change the quantity, it works perfectly fine even if I submit an order right away.

After typing the above message, I went and attached a Trade Window to the DOM chart as well, and guess what, it confirms the delay. If I change the quantity from the Trade Window from the Chart window, it could take up to a few seconds to reflect the change on the Trade Window on the DOM and vice versa. No need to submit an order as I can see which quantity is pressed.

Now that I know it's just a delay, it's fine. I'll just make sure not to submit the order right away.

Thanks for your time.

A side question, but somewhat related to this if I may. I was thinking of maybe using the Trade Window with the DOM chart instead of the regular Chart just in case I need to change the quantity and submit the order quickly. But I notice the text is dark while a dark background is in use. I think I read somewhere that it's a Windows thing and supposed to be automatic. I played with the "Chart Trade Window TextColor" under "Graphics Settings - Global" as well, but that only changes the color of the other texts such as P/L, DPL, etc.

On my regular chart, the same background color is used and the text is white. I believe I didn't have to change it either. But on the DOM chart, it stays black. If there's a way to adjust it, please let me know. If not, it's okay as well cuz I know what the texts are - just can't see them.

I've attached a screenshot where I've put the DOM chart with its Trade Window on top of the regular chart with its own Trade Window to show you.

Thanks.

There absolutely is a delay. The delay is going to be based upon the Chart Update Interval. Or at least we think it is based upon the Chart Update Interval. We would have to check. We will check and update the documentation.

That screenshot you posted, looks like an operating system fault. That is actually very clear to us. Typically we see things like that, when the operating system gets low on resources.

If you close Sierra Chart down, and close other programs then start Sierra Chart, that problem should go away. Otherwise, try restarting the computer. The color of that text is not controlled by Sierra Chart at all. Sierra Chart has no control over that at all.

This is one reason we are creating these new Settings Windows that replace these dialogs. The Trade Window will be updated as well at some point. The new ones use next to no Windows resources.

Regarding some of the controls on this window not being visible:

We now realize this is not a Windows resource issue but it relates to the Trade Window colors settings and the system colors being referenced for the Trade Window. We will work out a solution for this.

Nice! You guys are great at what you do. No rush as this is just cosmetic issue. Thank you for your time.
