Help With Formulaic Lookback

I'm hoping someone can help me with this...

In a CBBOAC (formula), I'm able to do this shorthand lookback:

ID11.SG1>AVERAGE(ID11.SG1[-1:-6]))

Yet the following simple lookback gives me a formula error:

L<L[-1:-12]

I'm simply trying to ensure that the current bar low is the low for the past 12 bar periods.

Can someone please explain the correct way of doing the above?
