Dear Mr/Mrs, When I draw a volume profile on a minute based and volume based chart with the exact same start and end time, the amount of contracts on each price level are not the same (The profiles have not the same size). How can I solve this? Regards Date Time Of Last Edit: 2021-12-27 16:21:34

Please get us a chartbook with the two charts in it that show the issue you are referring to. They will be different because the starting and ending time of the chart bars which make up the beginning and the ending of the Volume Profile, will be different with chart bars based upon a variable amount of time like Volume as compared to bars based upon a fixed time.

Thanks for the reply. I need a volume profile where all the contracts on each price level are incremented based on a start and end time and not when a bar begins or ends. Is there a way to have a general profile based on start and end time? I've tried to draw a volume profile on an 1 minute chart and on a 200 volume chart. From 00:00 to 00:00 and I get two complete different profiles and it shouldn't be different because the contracts are adding up on each price level. So is there way to have the same profile based on start and end time? I hope you can help me Regards |

Alright, but now I got two different volume profiles and I don't know which one is correct and thus I don't know which one I should use.

What is the time period of the volume profile? It is not going to be entirely precise on chart bars with a variable time frame per bar. The chart bars need to be based upon a fixed amount of time.

It will only be 100% correct on a chart with chart bars based upon a fixed amount of time. What is the time period of the chart bars in the chart this volume profile is on?

But you basically saying is, that when you use a volume based chart, the VP is incorrect and when you use a time based chart, the VP is correct?

Yes it would be slightly incorrect. Although it depends upon how the Session Times are set. If you enable this Chart Setting, it should be accurate: Chart Settings: New Bar at Session Start (Chart >> Chart Settings >> Session Times >> Intraday Chart Session Times menu) But as we said it depends upon the Session Times of the chart. So what are they set to? Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. Try to keep your questions brief and to the point.
