Yes, you have the right explanation. The "Name" is telling you that it does not recognize something you typed in (ADN instead of AND). A "Formula" error is something about the way you have the formula laid out, either not enough variables or something about the way the formula is setup.

is spacing of the label from start anything to do with error?
i.e. if you inadvertently typed a space before starting a label... is that an error?

No, it should not be, but we are not 100% sure we understand what you mean by a "label".

Keep in mind that in the Spreadsheets you can select the button on the upper right that states "Details" (to the right of the formula entry line). That will give you specific information on where the error is. Refer to the following:

To get us a screen image, open your Alert Manager and then select Edit >> Screen Images >> Upload Chart with Overlays. You will get a pop-up asking if you want to copy the path for the image to the clipboard - select Yes and then paste that path into this thread and submit the ticket.

For example, here is an image we just tried to ensure that the Alert Manager would show:
