I'm trying to use the 'High/Low for Time Period Extended' study. However it seems to only work for the bar time period of the chart. For example if I want to define a 5 minute opening range I have to use a 5 min chart. I can't define a 5 min opening range on a 30min chart. What is confusing me is that there are input parameters 'start time' and 'end time' in the settings. Am I doing something wrong, or is that how the study works.

That is how the study (and the system) works. Keep in mind, each bar is its own entity when it is put onto the chart, therefore there is no information available for when the first 1 minute was within a 5 minute bar. The only information is the High/Low/Open/Close (and other Bid/Ask Price information) for the 5 minute bar. Therefore, to get the high/low for a 1 minute period onto a 5 minute chart, you would need to open a 1 minute chart, put the High/Low for Time Period study on it and then use the Study/Price Overlay to overlay the study onto the 5 minute chart.
