CUSTOM SYMBOLS UPDATE on initial intraday chart opening but not the enxt day

custom symbols will open and update on an intraday chart however the next day these symbols are not updating at all and stop when sierra chart is shut down. when you reopen they just do nothing and a red square will say somethign about cannot download historical data this is on a second instance of sierra chart. CAN YOU PLEASE address this issue or tell me a work around. it is with all symbols that are custom for example say dec crude minus january crude so if i do find symbol and open an intraday chart it will work but if i shut down sierra chart and reopen it the next day it will not update the symbol at all it actually stops at the exact moment i shut down sierra chart. other than this issue the custom symbols are working pretty good. |

is anyone going to address this issue? i started writing about this and asking about this almost 2 months ago. if this is something on my end then it would be great to figure out what the issue is so I can utilize what Sierra Chart was built to do. AGAIN sometimes custom charts update and sometimes they do not. here are the error messages associated with the charts not building for custom symbols DOWNLOAD FAIL ERROR DOWNLOAIDNG HISTORICAL INTRADAY CHART (CHART SYMBOLS) CALCULATION TASK FAILED. FAILED TO READ FROM THE INPIT FILE (SYMBOL) ERROR READING RECORDS FROM THE FILE SCID FILE LISTED FROM DATA FILE oddly this same custom symbol opens just fine when it is done righ tnow i.e. open intraday chart for a found symbol. is something wrong with the way this is set up in sierra or is something wrong on my end with data files possibly? also got this error FOR A CUSTOM SYMBOL NEXT DAY DOWNLOAD FAILED ERROR DOWNLOADING HISTORICAL INTRADAY DATA FOR (SYMBOL) THIS IS NOT A VALID FORMULA SYMBOL. however it is a valid symbol that i can pull up an intraday chart very easily with the find symbol and then open intraday chart. i love sierra chart it is wonderful but i get frustrated when it takes weeks to try and figure out an issue. thanks in advance MOST LIKELY it is on my end i know but i need a place to start |

Why would this be a paid support question when I am goign line by line on your instructions and it still does not work. why dont you try and do a custom symbol of CLUZ20-CLF21 and watch how after you log out it no longer updates. in the past you guys never said this was a paid question to have answered. there is absolutely nothing in this question that would requirw me to PAY for support on a SIMPLE CALENDAR SPREAD? WHY doesn't sierra chart update spreads in a custom symbol afer you log out. it actually will go so far as to state that the symbol is no longer a valid spread which is not right becuause it already the day or ngiht before logging out accepted it as a correct symbol. |

by logging out it would be the next day. Make sure you are running version 2098 or higher. Refer to the Fast Update instructions. If there is missing historical data in a chart for a Custom Calculated Symbol, the first step is to open the individual charts for each symbol used within that custom formula. Open the Intraday charts following the Open Chart instructions. For example, for the symbol {US30}-{SPX500} you would open Intraday Charts for the US30 and SPX500 symbols. Follow the Retrying Downloading of Intraday Data instructions if there is any missing data for those symbols. Once you are sure that there is no missing data in the Intraday Charts for the individual symbols, then the next step is to go to the Intraday chart for the Custom Calculated Symbol. Select Edit >> Delete All Data and Download to redownload the data from the individual Intraday symbol files. did all of this to a t over and over again wth a bunch of diffrent symbols. is it working on your end? i think that would be nice to know right. like hey we tried this on our end and it worked and is working Date Time Of Last Edit: 2020-08-17 21:55:21

Also that symbol is not correct: CLUZ20-CLF21 It should be: {CLZ20}-{CLF21} And there are also exchange traded spreads available: Real-Time Exchange Data Feeds Available From Sierra Chart: Exchange Traded Spreads The cost is related to providing support. This is not for free. We have to take the time to analyze specifically what you are doing and the more you write, the more time it takes. Your account has a lot of questions and when we take the time on this message board to answer questions this cost us about 150 USD per hour. Same thing with remote assistance support and is even more time-consuming. And we will limit the cost of this to 25 USD. In your case you are also getting Sierra Chart at no cost through your broker. CUSTOM SYMBOLS need to be built and saved in the main instance. this may be an oversight for most but it might be added to the help page. thank you very much have a wonderful day |

This actually depends upon how this setting is set: Global Symbol Settings: Use These Symbol Settings in New Instances When Started (Global Settings >> Symbol Settings) We will update the Custom Formula Symbols documentation to explain this. We also did add in the latest release, two additional things to troubleshoot issues with Custom Formula Symbols. There is now an indicator displayed right on the chart, indicating the state of the calculation. Whether it is calculating or there is an error.
