Question about VPOC from different studies

Hi,

I am comparing the volume point of control ( VPOC ) from the two studies "Volume by Price" and "Volume Value Area Lines". For oil futures, they agreed perfectly. I then selected "chart setting", and changed the symbol from CL-201402-NYMEX to GC-201402-NYMEX. The gold VPOC ( pink lines ) were different.

Should the VPOC from the two studies be always the same ?

Thanks.

They should be the same as long as the settings that affect these calculations are the same between the two studies. This we do not know. You will need to check them.

I use Sierra Chart default settings for intra-day charts for both studies. They should be the same.

I tested the five-minute chart of ES, NG, NQ, CL, GC and ZS in the morning. Only GC and ZS had this problem. By 12:28 PM Eastern Time, the ZS VPOC of both studies matched, but the GC VPOC were still different.

Globex session has begun. I did a quick check: the gold VPOC of both studies ( the two pink lines ) did agree. I also compared notes with one of my friends, who has been using Optimus Futures Rithmic Feed. It seems that the VPOC from Volume by Price is the correct one.

Are there any other settings that I need to pay attention to ?

The default study settings for these particular studies does not mean they will be the same when applied to the chart.

The settings are not the same. The Volume by Price study should not be using a Visible Bars Volume Graph Period Type. It needs to be set to Multiple Profiles Fixed by Time.

Thanks for your help.

I am using Sierra Chart real-time feed. One of my friends is using Optimus Futures Rithmic Feed. We have been comparing the VPOC of ES, NQ, CL, NG, GC, and ZS during the pit session since beginning of December, 2013. ( I got the VPOC from "Volume Value Area Lines". ) Most of the time, our results agreed within one tick. There were few occasions that the VPOC were completely different. Most of the discrepancies occurred for gold futures.

Now that the setting for "Volume by Price" has been fixed, I am going to compare the results with him again.
