Dear support, I found an issue with SC 2029-2038: Excel hangs indefinitely opening files including DDE link IF SC is running. It never happend before and it solves rolling back SC to SC 2028 Procedure: - Start SC 2029-2038 - Open an Excel file with a formula linked to Metatrader4 by DDE - Excel hangs indefinitely opening the file - Excel opens the file as soon as SC is manually closed Please note that this is fully reproducible (it happens 100% of the times) Please also note that Excel file opens smoothly rolling back to SC 2028, issue started with SC 2029 In attachment you could find a minimal excel file to test it |

We are declining support for this. This is a Microsoft issue. It just proves why Microsoft software is so bad. And why we have removed support for Excel.

No, It's not the case of Excel used WITH Sierra. I know you removed the support for this. Here the issue is that SC is not allowing me to use Excel for other task not related with Sierra |

Are you really telling me that SC decided that I can't use Excel for other my personal stuff not related with SC when SC 2029+ is running and that this is a Microsoft issue?

The problem is on the Microsoft side. This is not a Sierra Chart issue. Understand that. We understand these things. This is not in any way a Sierra Chart issue. Your conclusions are wrong! Sierra Chart does not interfere with Microsoft Excel in any way. There is some problem on the Excel side. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Sierra Chart does not interfere with Microsoft Excel in any way. There is some problem on the Excel side. You interfere indeed and was not easy for me to understand it because it looked impossible to me too. It took me some time to understand why I was not able to use my excel files not related to SC. In the first post of this thread I wrote a clear and fully reproducible procedure that works 100% of the times. The only variable in test is SC > or < 2028, it's not difficult, just test it before saying I am wrong |

We contemplated this a little more, one thing that we understand about Windows dynamic data exchange is that if on the system there is a window part of a thread which is not getting and dispatching messages, then it can block DDE. However, all windows within Sierra Chart will be associated with threads that are responsive and getting and dispatching messages and there has been no recent changes to any of this. There are no new windows created on background threads. And as long as the user interface of Sierra Chart is responsive it will not cause a problem with DDE. Thanks for your investigation It is likely that the old setup Excel 2007 + Win 7 64 bit there is some other reason for DDE to hang that was hit in the 2028 --> 2029 update but I can accept that SC is not going to investigate further for an issue on a so old setup |
