Market replay market depth data

So I was looking to have market depth data for market replay. So I set my symbol setting under global settings to record market depth data. So does this mean I can go back in history or is this only on a going forward based. If I’m goinG forward based....then do I need to have the software open everyday to record the data or does this happen behind the scenes?
