Problems when resuming a replay session

Lately I've been exploring the replay capabilities a lot, and have run into an issue multiple times. If I'm in the middle of a session and I get called away to do other things, I can pause the session and come back to it. But if I then shut down the computer for the day and try to pick it up again tomorrow, I have to manually move back to the same timeframe I was at before, and start the replay again. No big issue there. But then what ends up happening is the DOM doesn't correctly display any position I may have been in, and if I wind back in time to before the trade was entered, I eventually end up with more size being added to the trade. For example if I had 1 contract, I'll end up with 2, then 3, etc. I'm wondering if resuming a replay session in this way, is in fact simply not supported? Maybe I need to actually close out any trade I'm in at the time, hit Stop, and then come back "fresh" again later? That's what I'm going to try next time anyway. |

This is explained here: Replaying Charts: Trade Position Quantity During Replay and Jumping Back In regards to: But then what ends up happening is the DOM doesn't correctly display any position I may have been in,
As long as you start the replay at the same location you should have the same position quantity. We will test this now.

Ok we did run a test, and the Position Quantity is correct when resuming a replay but be sure when you are starting the replay you choose the option: "Do Not Clear Trade Data for Symbol and Account". Probably you are choosing the option to clear the data.

Thanks, I was actually choosing the "do not clear data" option. I don't really understand the explanation at the link you sent, I'll read it over a few more times and see if I can make sense of it. The problem was that the position would increase larger than it ever was. It's not just that I would go back in time, then play forwards and the trade re-executed. I am only trading 1 contract positions for these tests and would end of with 3 or 4 contracts from backing up. It was like each time it re-encountered the position, it executed it an additional time on top of the one that was already there.

It certainly can change to a value you might not expect. It would be going back to the Position Quantity that existed at the date and time you are jumping back to. There is a full recalculation of the Position Quantity when jumping back. It should not be increasing. That would not make technical sense.

I agree it doesn't make technical sense, that's what prompted me to make this post. I'll watch closely the next time I'm doing replays, maybe even record it to video since I normally record all my trades anyway. |
