I don't know if it's only me but I updated from version 1046 to 1051 and I noticed that there seems to be some pause when I update the intraday chart using Eidt/Download Intraday chart from a particular position to the end of the data. I think the update was faster in version 1046 than version 1051. Version 1049 release notes say "Performance improvements with the downloading of historical Intraday data" as one of the changes. I also noted that the Intraday Data Editor window does not go away after clicking on the Delete and Download Data From Current Position to End.

Do you notice that the overall download time is longer or just that you notice the chart takes longer to update during the download. The chart will take longer to update during the download because the data is now written in large blocks. So you will notice a lot of bars appear, a pause and then more bars will appear. This is also another performance improvement because it minimizes the number of study calculations.

It is also possible that because of the writing of large blocks of data, that the operating system may take a little longer with data compression.

All of this is adjustable by us. It is designed to be faster especially if filesystem I/O is not very good on a system. But if there is an adverse performance impact, we can make some adjustments. This is no problem.

It is true, that when you Delete and Download data from the Intraday Editor that it no longer closes. You have to manually close it. You may want to do some additional work in that window and that is the reason why it stays open.

I would appreciate if you could make some adjustments to make the chart update faster. Thank you.

The reason I delete and download intraday data is to ensure the chart I'm looking at is accurate before I make a trade decision. Even with IB's true data, the chart still is not as accurate. Deleting and downloading from a specific position to the end forces download of the data from specific time to the current time which makes the chart accurate at that moment. I have experiences about this. I was used to the automatic closing of the Intraday Editor when clicking on the Delete and Download Data from Current Position to End. Now, I need to do an extra click to close it which takes time because I do delete and download for 6 to 12 charts in two chartbooks so it is preferable that the Intraday Editor automatically close. Besides, if we use the other editing options on that window, it does not close so we are able to do additional work if we need to. Unless you have received complaints from other users about the Intraday Editor closing automatically after a delete and download, I request the Intraday Editor window automatically close after doing a Delete and Download Data from Current Position to End.

There is no point in us making the chart update faster, if the overall download speed is not affected because the chart updating in slower intervals does reduce CPU usage. So we will not do that unless the overall download speed is slower. That has yet to be determined.

It sounds as though you will want to add the Delete and Download Data-All Charts command to the Global Settings >> Customize Chart Shortcut Menu. This way you can accomplish what you want just by right clicking on the chart at the point where you want to re-download the data and do it for all charts at once.

If you trade futures, you may be interested in this new data feed:

This way you do not have to re-download the data.

I have to commend you on a great job on the intraday charts. After using it for a while I realized I don't need to delete and download data as I used to in previous versions. The speed of the intraday chart mattered only when first downloading a stock's data, which I usually do before market opens. Once the stock chart is loaded, it updates real-time and there is no longer a need for me to do a regular refresh of the chart from a certain point during the trading session because it is now as accurate as it can be based on IB's data feed. Thanks.
