Measure the average size of a bar for a time period

I am trying to calculate the average range of the 60 minute bar for a given time period. For example, the opening bar of the day session for the S&P Futures. I would like to know what that has been for the last 12 days. I have tried compiling a 60 minute chart from 8:30-9:29:59 and then running ATR and ROC indicators with their moving averages. I am not getting accurate numbers. The ATR on that chart calculates the moves from one day to the next and the ROC gives me the averages up or down. I just want the ranges of the bars. Can you help me? Thanks

Keep what you have done with the 60 minute chart with the session time for the hour stated. But then apply the Bar Difference study to the Main Price graph and plot it in Region 2. This will give you the Range of each 60 minute bar. Then apply a SMA (12) to Region 2 (Bar Difference). You will now have the average range for that one hour back for 12 days. You will need to load about 25 days of data to have a true average for each of the days back for 12 days as otherwise loading only 12 days of data will give you an accurate average only for the current days SMA (12). |
