Why is it that the Size of the Sierra Chart folder is in my instance around 15GB but it says 5GB saved to disk and when I backup the folder to another drive for backup they are the same. Thanks |

This is due to NTFS file compression. It is really important to compress these Intraday data files(scid file extension) which take the most space, to reduce the amount of space they take.

So if something happened and I needed to install Sierra fresh again then copied the backup folder over the fresh install would it keep them compressed or would there be something I needed to do. to get the compression again. I like to be preemptive if something happens and that way I can get started again faster. It only took me one time to realize backup was/is critical.

You would have to most likely do compression in this case. Sierra Chart will also detect if a file is compressed and if it is not, it will compress it but that can sometimes take a while for a gigabyte file.

Well hopefully I wont have to cross that bridge. If so I assume there is also a way to just copy over all my charts and settings and chartbooks and copy those into the program and just start with a fresh data download.
