I am new to elec. orders. If I have a position sold, can it be offset with a buy order to either close or cover? Is this the same as using the reverse button? (for the same # of contracts) In other words, does placing an order in the opposite direction flatten the existing order?

Yes. You just need to enter an order with the opposite side as compared to the current Trade Position in order to close out or reduce the position.
