Study Price overlay of POC and VA from another chart

Hi,

I understand that it's not possible to overlay Volume by Price study from one chart to another. However, if you extend the POC and Value Areas (e.g. horizotal lines) it is possible to overlay these extensions to another chart by using 'Study Overlay OHLC' from the VbP chart to grab the POC then study price overlay it onto the other chart. Seems quite inefficient though as Study Overlay OHLC can only grab 1 subgraph at a time. Do you know of a better way to do this?

Thanks :)

Why do you want to do the overlay to another chart rather than just using the Volume by Price study on that chart?

In general, this is the study to use for overlaying studies and will overlay all Subgraphs:

I guess I made the assumption that VbP would be expensive on CPU as I'm using 6 'Multiple profiles based on fixed time' instances of VbP on one chart and then overlaying their subgraphs onto 2 or more charts :)

The VbP studies with subgraphs work great on the chart that they're running but for some reason using Study Price Overlay I can see the subgraphs there but they won't display on the charts. I've got the subgraphs from many other studies to overlay fine, sometimes after tweaking the scale and subgraph settings, but no luck this time.... On the SPO subgraphs settings I have the default settings running (tried a few variations too but no good):

- draw style: visible
- line style: solid

So the chart I've got the VbP studies on is a intraday 60m chart and the SPO charts are range bars. I've tried to change these (shouldn't matter anyway afaik) but still no luck. Any ideas?

Thanks

To make the Volume by Price study more efficient set the Draw Mode to not include Volume Profiles:
Volume By Price Study: Draw Mode

This is fixed in version 1623.

Hi,

I Just tested SPO on 1623 and it works great with VbP now. In fact it works so well that it's highlighted a possible issue in VbP. In the subgraphs menu on VbP i could never get the 'Value Area High Value' or 'Value Area Low Value' subgraphs to display lines and instead found a workaround using 'Value Area and Outline' to display the Value Areas on the chart...

However, since the 1623 SPO fix, seems that the 'Value Area High Value' and 'Value Area Low Value' subgraphs are working as I would expect on the SPO chart but not on the VbP source chart. On the source chart i'm still having to use the VA & Outline subgraph and VA High/Low are still not working.

I assume that 'Value Area and Outline' is related to the 'Highlight Value Area' option to highlight the bars (the documentation seems to imply that they should be related), but changing 'Value Area and Outline' colours under subgraphs doesn't seem to work as I would expect. Maybe this is also broken.

Not sure if these are by design or I have made a mistake in configuration, but thought you should know about the inconsistency I have found.

Thanks
S

Ah, one other thing i've noticed. When VbP source chart subgraphs using 'Multiple Profiles Based On Fixed Time' are rendered for example for weekly POC with Dash and Dash line types, on the destination chart with the SPO the subgraphs look to be the same but the lines on the chart are solid instead of dash. I think this may have something to do with right aligned VbP profiles, as this only seems to happen on those. Also if the line settings on the source VbP chart are set to Line and Dash, then the SPO chart displays them as solid lines (but the subgraph settings mirror correctly)

I've tried to fix it but can't, but maybe I've missed something on the SPO settings

Thanks,
S

. In the subgraphs menu on VbP i could never get the 'Value Area High Value' or 'Value Area Low Value' subgraphs to display lines
This is well documented here:
Volume By Price Study: Value Area High Value (SG3)
Volume By Price Study: Value Area Low Value (SG4)

I assume that 'Value Area and Outline' is related to the 'Highlight Value Area' option to highlight the bars (the documentation seems to imply that they should be related), but changing 'Value Area and Outline' colours under subgraphs doesn't seem to work as I would expect. Maybe this is also broken.
Definitely no problem with this functionality. We have verified that. Refer to:
Volume By Price Study: Value Area and Outline (SG9)

From our perspective post #7 is hard to understand unless we can visually see what you are seeing and know exactly what you are doing. We are 110% certain there is no problem, and there is just simply an explanation for this. It is not something that we would get involved with.

Ok. Thanks I'll go through the docs that you've provided above, clearly an oversight on my side...
