Alternate Real Time Update Symbol

I am using the BAAVG suffix at the end of the symbol on my chart. I also input the normal symbol without the BAAVG suffix into the Alternate Real Time Update symbol field so that my trades will not get rejected when I send them to the broker. However, when I input the normal symbol without the suffix into the Alternate Update Field, the chart begins plotting this symbol instead of the BAAVG symbol.

Would you know how to fix this so that my chart will remain plotting the BAAVG symbol, but my trades will be placed without the suffix? Thanks.

We see no reason why what you say is actually true. Certainly the historical data will not be the bid ask average but the real-time collected data will be.

I'm not sure why it is true either, but nevertheless it is happening. I can show you step by step screenshots of the issue if that will help. Any suggestions is appreciated.

I'm curious if you're able to recreate this issue on your end?

For me I'm forced to use BAAVG to get a more accurate picture of where the current market price is (since using the last price is inaccurate for P&L) and I'm also forced to use the Alternate Update field in order to place the actual order without it getting rejected. So I can't trade without these working. Your help is appreciated.

No. We cannot re-create this . We do not see how there would be a problem. We cannot see how this would be technically possible.

We recommend increasing the number of decimal places to display through Chart >> Chart Settings >> Price Display Format . You should then be seeing the average prices more clearly.

I've attached a private screenshot that shows what I'm viewing. The main chart should be the BAAVG chart, but it switches to the normal symbol once I input that symbol into the Alternate Update field.

I will pay for tech support for remote service to fix the problem. I obviously cannot trade until this is fixed. Not sure why this is clearly happening with me but yet you're not able to recreate it. So whatever I need to do to solve the problem, please let me know. Thank you.

The title bar will show the Alternate Real-time Update Symbol, if it is set, instead of the main symbol of the chart. This is normal.

We think we know what the misunderstanding is from. The Alternate Real-time Update Symbol will have no effect upon the chart bars. Those are going to use the bid ask average if set. You can clearly check the values of the bars to observe that. Make sure you increase the Price Display Format number of decimal places. It does affect the last trade price box you see on the price scale. This is explained in the documentation:
http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=doc/doc_ChartSettings.html#AlternateRealTimeUpdateSymbol

There is no room for any kind of problem. Everything should be working as designed.

Unfortunately, I'm seeing something different on my chart than what you describe. As you can see in the attached private screenshot, the two charts should be identical, with identical quotes. However, once I input a symbol in the Alternate Update field for the chart on the right, the chart loses its BAAVG suffix, stops averaging, and is no longer a BAAVG chart.

And how is it that you conclude that the chart bars are no longer based upon the average of the Bid and Ask? Have you checked the values of those?

As we have said, the last trade price box on the right side will not display the average price when you set the Alternate Real-time Update Symbol to a symbol that does not use the BAAVG suffix.

I wasn't aware from your first post that the price box on the right side would not show real time BAAVG data. I thought you were referring only to the historic bars that load on the chart and not the real time price box also. Thank you for explaining.

Is there a way that I can remove the price box on the right hand side? I searched the documentation but couldn't find a way to turn off the price box display. Thanks.

Only by changing the color of it to be similar to the background but that may not be the desired effect. You can change that through Global Settings >> Graphics Settings.

Yeah, I was going to do that but was hoping there was another way to disable it or make it transparent. Thanks.

Hi, I changed the price box color using the chart menu/graphic settings, but for some reason whenever I close the program and reopen the program, the price box reverts back to the original color. Fyi, the Use Global Settings Instead of these Settings is unchecked. How do I get these changes to the price box to remain saved after the program is closed? I also saved the chartbook but that didn't help. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
