1. We are working on a new method to reference studies outputted by the Spreadsheet Study in the non-CLR version of Sierra Chart. The reference method will be by using the studies unique ID, the subgraph and the row number.

It has long been a problem when studies are added, removed or the number of subgraphs in a study changes and references to existing studies are thrown off. This makes formula maintenance difficult. We now have a comprehensive solid solution for this.

With the changes planned, any time a study is added or removed, existing references will be fine as long as they are not referring to a removed study. If the number of subgraphs in a study increases this will not be a problem either.

This image shows an example of the new format:

If using the same spreadsheet for more then one chart and all charts have the same study's it seems to me that the new method do not work as the reference number is the same for all charts on the same study. The reference number is the same on all sheets in the spreadsheet. Regards Outlander

These new Study Subgraphs references are specific to individual Sheets they are displayed and used in. Unless they are prefixed with the sheet name.

For example you will be able to do something like this:
Sheet5!ID1.SG2.3

This is not quite supported yet.

I frequently use row 1 of Formula Columns for input values. Will row 1 still be available?

What is the new address for A3 date time cell? ID0.SG0.3?
ok, understood, A3 works well. I'm just wondering why cell B3 can be referenced in both ways - using new style ID0.SG1.3 and old B3... at the same time A3 doesn't have new style address.

There is not a new reference method for column A and there does not need to be one because that is always constant and present. Date-Time data is not normally part of studies.

The new reference method will not affect this:

Hi,

Just installed the latest version and wow! it's a whole new system it looks like!...

Problem is I need my chartbook and sheets like I had them...

How can I do this or do I need to revert back to an older version?

Are you referring to the non-CLR version? The non-CLR version does use new spreadsheet functionality which cannot read the old spreadsheet files. At least at this time.

Hi,

Yes the non CLR version...

I am running quite a bit of stuff and fell into a lot of Microsoft errors so I switched..

It seemed to clear things up a bunch...

The latest version does not load my spreadsheets properly, so I reverted back to 1043

But wow those new sheets look nice...

What worries me is being able to port my work over...

I have quite a bit of labor logged into my system here...Sheet names are important...

I use a free standing "GUI" sheet to control everything....this is elaborate from color coding, conditional formatting, etc...

That sheet didn't load at all on the new version (It is an added sheet with no chart assign...)

I'm really excited about these updates, just need a reasonable way to port over...

A simple copy paste could be feasible, but sheet references are gone

Just brainstorming here...

Cheers

Also,

I would like to find a way to make the switch as soon as possible so as to maintain my work on the best possible platform for the future.....

The new spreadsheets are still under development. They are still considered a beta.

We do plan to add a program to convert the previous CLR spreadsheet files to the new format.

I am looking to migrate over to non-clr as the cpu load is causing too much latency on my charts. However I am not too stoked to copy and paste all the formulas from all my spreadsheets and modify the referencing formulas due to laziness.
When do you expect the program to convert to non-clr to be available? Would it be worth waiting for it if I have like 15 spreadsheet files I need to re-code?

Also, is it in the development plans to build any macro functionality into the spreadsheets?

To reference a cell from a study column using the new alternative reference method, use this new format:
[OptionalSheetName!]ID[StudyIDNumber].SG[SubgraphNumber]@[RowNumber]

Example:
Sheet5!ID1.SG2@3

The old format which uses a dot before the row number is no longer supported.

This is available in the latest Sierra Chart release.
@Sierra, Will you provide any documentation where to find it and how to use it?
Or you did it in a way that it does convertion automatically?

We see a problem with the alternate reference method for Study Subgraph columns on spreadsheets which will cause a NAME error.

We are working to resolve this now.

The problem with using the alternate referencing method or identifier for Study Subgraph columns on a Spreadsheet, has been resolved in 1174.

Update Sierra Chart to the latest version through the Help menu.

Here is a new video we put together featuring some of the improvements in the new spreadsheets including the new alternate reference method:
