Today the ATR averaged around 2.40 this afternoon. This may sound somewhat naive, but does the 2.40 represent points or ticks? Thanks |

The Average True Range study calculates actual values and it is not in ticks.

What I read about ATR is, they say to make your stop loss 2 to 3 times the ATR. Would that end equation be in Points?

If you are using Attached Orders in Sierra Chart, it depends upon whether you have selected Price or Ticks on the Targets tab.

Yes, I'm using attached orders, and I have selected ticks. But I'm not sure what that has to do with my ATR issue? Here's my example: I'm trading the NQ, I have an ATR of 2.5. I'm going to take the ATR x 2 for a stop loss. Would the stop loss be 5 points? My question is... would the final answer to the equation be in Points? Becuase if it was in Ticks, the end equation would only be 5 ticks. Thanks Date Time Of Last Edit: 2016-11-17 06:34:30

There is no need to say thank you. It is more burden on us.
