"Duplicate Chart" feature stopped working

I was able to select a chart and then go to Chart-> Duplicate Chart and it would create a copy of it in the same chartbook. However, I then went to the Global Settings page and went to Symbol Settings, and hit "Update From Server". I don't think I did much else than that, and now when I try to duplicate a chart nothing happens. Previously it would show a new chart on top of the old one which I could then modify. I am hooked up to IQFeed and am trying to get data for stocks. Any ideas?

Incidentally, the feature to open up a new chart window also results in no action (File -> New/Open Historical Chart). Real-time data is hooked up and coming in for all the charts that are already part of my chartbook.

We would expect that you would see an error message displayed in the Window >> Message Log when a chart window does not appear when you open one or duplicate one.

There are a couple of possible reasons for this problem.

It may be related to a problem that we have already fixed. Update Sierra Chart to the latest prerelease with Help >> Download Prerelease.

Here is what happened when I tried to duplicate a chart two times in a row:

GDX Daily #83 | Reloading chart. | 2016-09-22 17:56:14

The thing is, the chart I selected was a daily chart, but was not GDX. I do have GDX open as a monthly chart in the same chartbook, but it was not the chart I clicked on, which was CAT. Neither chart opened up a new window, and looking at the list of windows in my Win 7 taskbar for Sierra, there is no GDX daily chart.

I upgraded to the latest pre-release version as requested, and the same thing is still happening. I also upgraded my IQfeed client to the latest version, and no effect. I am still getting the message shown above, even when the chart I select is not GDX, but something else.

Thoughts?

So this chart number #83 you actually do not see listed on the CW menu?

Also if you are duplicating charts which are detached, it would not surprise us you are going to start to run into a problem because the operating system can only handle so many detached charts. You should limit the number of detached charts that you have.

So actually it is in the CW menu, along with every other chart it appears I ever created. However, these GDX charts (multiple copies) are not showing up in the Windows taskbar for Sierra chart, so they are not visible. I am new to Sierra so I don't know what all these things mean, like "GW" (is that global window)? I wasn't having any problems before today opening up windows (I have about 60 charts open)... they were all opening reasonably fast and I don't see that windows would be the limitation here. In other charting programs like NinjaTrader I have had 100+ charts open so one program can have that many windows with no issue, at least from a Win 7 perspective.

EDIT: Is there some way to remove some of these charts from the GW list? Are they actually chewing up resources even though I can't see them?

So it is now working again. I went to Window -> Windows and ChartBooks and selected all the charts I had created which were hidden. I hit Attach/Detach to make them show up, then closed them. I can now create a duplicate window again as I was doing before.

OK this is good.

Also we do not know what GW is referencing. We are not familiar with that. There is no menu command with this abbreviation.

Actually, I meant "CW" - I misread that. It is next to "CB".
