How do I show VPOC and not POC in Volume by Price Study?

It appears that the SC Volume by Price (VbP) study and the Volume Value Area Lines study both use a POC (Point of Control) verses a VPOC (Volume Point of Control). Is there anyway to use a VPOC rather than a POC? The following is a brief explanation of why I'm asking. The POC is based on time and shows the price where trading spent the most time, while the VPOC is where the most volume occurred for the session. Normally, these are close, but they can be significantly different. Looking at the attached a 15m chart of the ES Overnight session (16:30:00 EST March 9 - 09:29:59 EST March 10), we can see that the VPOC is at 1997 (this is the longest volume bar of the volume profile). The chart also shows that 1980.75 is the POC (It's the pink line. I'm don't know why the price and label are not showing as I have the Labels checked). AS we can see, the VPOC and POC in the overnight session are significantly different. Since I primarily use volume profile, the VPOC is more relevant to me than the POC. Thank you, Richard |

Are not the volume value area studies correct? It provides a Volume POC right?

@User348701, Sorry but I'm not sure I understand your question. As I explained above, the Volume by Price study calculates POC and not VPOC. The Volume Area Lines Study states VPOC in the study, but it is also calculating the POC and is identical to the VbP study (the lines overlap each other if you put both studies on your chart). |

You must be using the wrong study or misunderstanding something. Both the Volume by Price study and the Volume Value Area Lines are only capable of a Point of Control calculation which is at the price level of the highest volume. There is no other capability that even exists. After trading today I was able to further look into this issue. It turns out that SC is in fact calculating the VPOC. :) According to SC the overnight volume traded at 1980.75 was 4,038 compared to only 3,311 at 1997. One of my lines were covering up part of the volume profile at 1980.75 which made it look like the volume was less than at 1997. Thanks for your help. Date Time Of Last Edit: 2016-03-10 23:20:04

The chart image you posted is very complicated. This is not being presented to us properly. Remove all studies and chart drawings from that chart other than 1 Volume by Price study. And make sure it is set to highlight the point of control.
