What you need Microsoft is currently calling:
"Express 2013 with Update 4 for Windows Desktop".

This should be free.

Save your work. You now have all the elements of a custom study but it still won't compile. Next we will configure and build our study dll

I've tried searching for the item mentioned in post #2, but the links I get to at MS show as no longer available. It looks like they have a new package called VS Community. Is that what we want to use? I hate to start down a rabbit hole with a piece of software that isn't the correct thing to be using.

Visual Studio community seems to be OK:
https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/products/visual-studio-community-vs.aspx

Microsoft is always changing things with new names, major changes in user interfaces (although usually not much with their development tools), and changes to their website. This causes all of the documentation which has been written about their products to made significantly less effective. I am certain this is one thing they have no regard for and Microsoft should be terribly ashamed by this.

One thing about Sierra Chart is that it is very stable and changes are incremental and minimal. Just generally gradual new improvements.

I'm stuck on getting the code to compile into a dll with the std header stuff.
The documentation disconnect to 2013 has me stymied.
your help is sincerely appreciated

djcurcio -- I downloaded the 2010 version from this site. installing it as we speak. http://microsoft-visual-cpp-express.soft32.com/. Update: I'm running Windows 7 and the MSoft .NET framework libraries are not compatible with this older app and so the app doesn't build. I'm trying the 2013 version next.
