Suitable hardware upgrade to run multiple instances of Sierra

In broad terms: How fair is it to say that each additional core will enable me to run an additional instance of Sierra? Or at what point does the above cease to be a fair statement? So: An Intel Core i7 5820K 6-core might allow me good performance on up to 6 instances of Sierra [or is it 12 instances with hyperthreading?] or-- Two Intel Xeon E5 2640 V3 8-core might allow 16 instances of Sierra [or is it 32?]. Any modern multicore processor will be fine. As I've stated before, I even run SC in a Windows8 VM with 4 virtual cores (on top of 4 physical). The only time it ever matters is in loading data which is a minority of the use case. Steady state charting isn't high on CPU needs unless you have 100s of indicators.

In general, each core of the CPU will be utilized by each copy of Sierra Chart. However, if you have just a single storage device, hard drive, during data loading, the additional cores will not help much. So it is good to have multiple storage devices as well. When you mention "each core of the CPU will be utilized by each copy of Sierra Chart" do you speak about physical core or logical core ? For example do you prefer one Intel i5 6600K with 4 cores and 4 threads or one Intel i7 6700 K with 4 cores and 8 threads ? Regards. |
