In the documentation, SC states that virus protection should be set to exclude the Sierra Chart folder and scid file types.

I cannot get Microsoft Essentials to allow me to exclude file types ( the controls are disabled, I will try to figure out why that is), but I was able to exclude the Sierra Chart folder ( this is a different page and the controls were enabled).

a) Is it really required to exclude the file type, since the scid file is excluded by the SC folder exclusion? Is the reason that it is just best to do both since its easy to do, so better to do both to ensure the scid files are excluded?

b) Are the problems that virus protection can cause, are they just when the virus protection does a scan of the whole system, or can the 'real time virus protection' cause an issue as well?

1. It is sufficient to exclude the Sierra Chart folder from scanning.

2. Not sure about this. We know antivirus/anti-malware programs are quite troublesome. Although Microsoft Security Essentials generally is not a problem.
