New timer method - Number Bars Chart

Been adjusting everything for optimal performance on 2702 with the new timers method. Overall I like the rigidity of how this works. One issue I've personally run across is on a numbers bars chart. If I zoom out, to 5+ days, the chart hangs with max processor core usage. Have a couple studies on it, but nothing major. Numbers bars, calculated values tables, cumulative delta bars, and that's it.

This is definitively not related to timers. That is completely impossible. It is something completely unrelated.

Maybe it is related to OpenGL. Try disabling OpenGL:
Graphics Settings: Use OpenGL for Chart Graphics (Global Settings >> Graphics Settings >> Other)

Or it could be related to what is explained here:
High CPU Usage | Inactive User Interface | Poor Performance | Long Time to Load Chart Data | Charts Reloading Often: 30.23 - Chart Tick Size and Volume at Price Processing

Thanks. Will look into other causes. However, if the update interval in the chart settings is set to something like 5000, it doesn't freeze SierraChart when zooming out. However if it's set to a lower interval such as 30, it does.

In this case, it sounds like the chart is continuously being drawn for some reason. You can see if that is the case, by selecting Chart >> Chart Settings >> Performance. When the market is closed, Average Calculation and Draw Time should remain at 0 ms.

If it does not, it is being drawn for unknown reasons. So that problem has to be determined. And when the Numbers Bars are very dense, there is a lot of draw time. Increase the Tick Size to change that:

We have to make a change to how the Average Calculation and Draw Time is implemented because if a chart is not actually updating, it can still show prior values and be misleading. The change has been made and will be out tomorrow.

One thing that can cause a chart to continuously update is the Countdown Timer when it is set to display a countdown based on the real-time clock.

Your last messages were quite helpful. I isolated the issue of freezing. The chart still lags, as I would assume, when zooming out, but does not freeze any longer.

It turns out the average calculation and draw time metric was still greater than 1 in no market activity states due to the setting: Chart Settings > Market Depth > Draw DOM graph on chart - being set to "Yes". Setting this to no reverts the draw time to the expected zero and solves the crash scenario.

Thank you

We will work on making that market depth graph more efficient.
