Sierra Chart does not operate efficiently enough to use for trading on my Laptop computer but operates fine without any glitches on my desktop computers. I often get Sierra Chart "Not Responding" when using my Laptop. I don't have any antivirus software running on my Laptop and have comparable memory on my laptop and desktop computers.

Sierra chart is very efficient as far as RAM and CPU goes, but it does a lot of disk activity. If you don't have an SSD on your laptop, get one. It is the best (and cheapest) upgrade you can do. If you have a hard drive, it may need a cleanup using the Disk Cleanup and a Defragment pass too. Also, run Task Manager and go to the Startup Apps page. Disable everything except your anti-virus and reboot. If things improved, you can go back and Enable anything that you want to automatically start, or leave them disabled for on-demand use. |

We would not say there is a lot of disk activity. However, as real-time market data is received it is written to files periodically but that interval is controllable: Advanced Service Settings: Intraday File Flush Time in Milliseconds (Global Settings >> Advanced Service Settings >> Other) The default is every 10 seconds. The biggest impact is when opening chartbooks with many days and/or symbols that need to be read from disk.

You need to simply use a separate dedicated drive for Sierra Chart. If there is a lot of trading data to read then there is a lot to read. That can be minimized by adjusting the Intraday Storage Time Unit to a higher value. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users.
