Hello,

I've been having trouble moving my data files and chartbooks over to another computer. Once I get to step 4 I'm not understanding. (4) Copy the files from the Sierra Chart Data Files Folder from your original installation (source folder) into the Data Files Folder of your new installation (destination folder). Not sure how to proceed from this point. I'm going out of town for the holidays and would really appreciate if I could get some assistance with this before the end of business on Friday. It would be appreciated.

thank you.

Under your main Sierra Chart installation folder is a folder named 'Data'. Copy everything in that folder from the old installation to the new installation.

It's really just that simple.

If you are not certain of where the 'Data' folder is located, refer to the following setting that establishes the location for each installation:
General Settings Window: Data Files Folder (Global Settings >> General Settings >> Paths >> Files and Folder Paths)

I've followed the instructions but for some reason it's not transferring. Obviously I'm doing something wrong. In particular once I get to step 8 of the process. I created a new folder and copied the data files in there per the instructions.
I attempted to locate this new folder on my laptop but it's not there. Now when I open SC on my desktop my chartbooks are not opening automatically. If you could provide some images that would be great. If not it's ok I appreciate the effort.

thanks.

Which instructions are you following, please give us the link so we understand what "Step #8" is.

Also, you should not have to create a new folder, the 'Data' folder should already exist in a Sierra Chart installation. For example, if you installed Sierra Chart to the top of the C: drive, your Data folder would be located at "C:\SierraChart\Data". You should just copy all the files from within that Data folder from the one installation to the Data folder in the other installation.

Images will not be helpful, as this all depends on the location of where you have put your installations.

Do not delete anything at this time. The first thing is to "Copy" the files from the old location to the new location. You state that you are going from one computer to another computer, therefore you would have to either use a USB Stick, an external drive, a shared drive, or some method to get the files from the one computer to the other. You will want to "Copy" them - copy and paste them from the old computer's 'Data' folder to whatever medium you are going to use to transfer the files to the new computer, and then copy and paste them again from that medium to the 'Data' folder on the new computer.

Hello John,

Ok I am trying this again to copy the files over to the new computer. After reviewing the instructions I see all of the folders I should copy except for the Global Settings folder. Not sure why but I don't have it.
Also I have now funded an account with AMP and the deposit has been confirmed. My next question is what do I need to do with Sierra? Amp did provide me with a link to setup the Teton routing on the platform but stated I would need to pay Sierra
for the data sub.

thank you for everything.

Where are you seeing a reference to a "Global Settings" folder? There is no such folder and we do not see any references to one in the documentation for copying Sierra Chart data to another installation.

There are multiple references to the "Global Settings" menu, and the items that are stored relative to that menu. But let us know if we have missed something and need to correct the documentation.

Since you are getting setup with AMP to do live trading, the first thing you need to do is to change your package. Right now you are on the "Base Advanced" package and you can not connect to data and trading services on the "Base" packages - you need to be on one of the "Integrated" packages. Refer to the information for the Integrated packages at the following link:
Description of Service Packages and Pricing: Integrated Packages

To actually change your package, follow these instructions:
Sierra Chart Purchase and License Information: Changing Package

Then, follow the instructions for the "Teton Order Routing Service" at the following link starting at Step #5:
Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing: Setup Instructions

You do need to do Step #5 and setup the Denali Exchange Data Feed. That is where your real-time data is going to come from.

Hello John,

I have followed all of the instructions in regards to transferring the data files over. I'm at a point where I have copied the files onto the USB drive but I can not figure out how to get them
onto the new computer. I completed all of the steps down to #13 then when I didn't see any instructions on how to get the files onto the new computer I just went to the next section below this.
Simple Copy and Transfer of Sierra chart Installation. I have the USB inserted into the new computer. I can see that the files are there. I'm just not understanding how to get them onto the new computer.
I've only had the base package up until this point so I feel most of these files are irrelevant. The main thing I want onto the new computer is my charts that I've took the time to build out. Please help
as I'm leaving on Friday and will be away from my desktop for a couple of weeks and really wanted to have this completed before then.

thanks.

Have you installed Sierra Chart on the new computer? If not, then you need to do that first. On that new computer, go to the following link and select one of the buttons to download the software and perform the installation:
Software Download: Software Download

Once the software is downloaded, then it is just a copy and paste of the files. Take the files from the 'Data' folder on the old computer and paste them into the 'Data' folder of the new computer.

Yes I had already downloaded sierra onto the new computer. I also copied the files into the data folder but still when I open
sierra it's still opening to the default charts. I even went to open a open a chartbook. When I did this I selected all files from the drop down
when I did this I could see the files that I copied into the data files but when I tried to open them nothing happened. Is there anyway I could get some
assistance with this. I'd be willing to make a donation. :)

The reason why the default chartbook is opening is that you have not configured that new system to open the chartbook(s) you want.

The easiest way to resolve this is to copy the file named "sierra4.config" from the old computer to the new one. This file is located in the main Sierra Chart installation folder (typically C:\SierraChart). Make sure Sierra Chart is not running on either computer when you copy the file from and to the computers.

This file - sierra4.config - contains all of your global settings, including the files to open on startup.

--

That aside, you should be able to open the chartbooks with "File >> Open Chartbook". What exactly occurs when you do this for one of your existing chartbooks? What are you seeing, or not seeing? Your system may need to redownload the data, so it could take a few minutes to get the data downloaded to your new system.

ok John this is what i finally noticed. All of my chartbooks and even some of the files are in a folder called backups. This is why I wasn't seeing them in the Sierra/Data folder. (on the old computer) I wanted to confirm before I did this but
I assume it would be ok to now copy these the same way as I did the others onto the drive and put them onto the new computer? This is the only thing missing and I assume this is why I could not get any of my chartbooks
onto the new computer because in actuality I still had not moved them onto the new computer.

thank you.

The folder named "Backups" is just for backup copies of the files. You do not need to copy that folder or its contents.

Your Chartbooks are in the 'Data' folder. If you copied all the files from that Data folder from the old computer to the new one, then those chartbooks should be there.

What do you see when you select "File >> Open Chartbook"?

when i go to file then open chartbook i do see my chartbooks there. But for certain chartbooks I have to click on the folders button then select the right folder for them to then populate. The problem is when I go to copy the data files onto the drive on the main computer when I select Sierra then data I only see the files that are listed in the instructions to copy. I do not see any of my chartbooks that I've built there. I do see the default ones. Only when I go into the backups folder do I see the charts that I've built.

You should not be changing the folder to select a chartbook. What is the folder that you are changing to in order to see them?

I was at work responding by memory but now i'm home. So no you were correct when I select open chartbook the charts I've built are there. But again on my main computer when I go
to the C drive/Sierra chart/Data none of my built chartbooks are in there. But if I go to the C drive/sierra/backups they are in the backups folder. I've attached images of both the data and
backups folder.

Do not worry about, or pay any attention to the "Backups" folder at this time.

We are very confused by these statements:
"when I select open chartbook the charts I've built are there"
"on my main computer when I go to the C drive/Sierra chart/Data none of my built chartbooks are in there"

If you have your chartbooks in the "Data" folder on one computer but not the other. The copy the files with the .cht extension from the computer that has them to the computer that does not. You need to copy them from the "Data" folder on one system to the "Data" folder on the other.

Once you do that, you should have the same chartbooks on both systems, at least for that moment. Once you start making changes on a system to the chartbooks, you would need to copy the chartbooks to the other system in order to have them in the same state.
