Engineering: We switch between instruments using a quoteboard & linked charts in the same chartbook. For some charts, we require Intraday Chart Session Times only; however, once an instrument loads, the charts Use Evening Session as well. We've tried a few things to stop this behavior- 1) Changing those charts back to using only Regular Trading Hours (RTH), then under symbol settings, unchecking the "Use These Symbol Settings in New Instances When Started" 2) Changing those charts back to using only Regular Trading Hours (RTH), & selecting "Intraday Only" under chart data type, but this doesn't work when switching by using the Quote Board & linking. Please advise on how to accomplish this... if not, we request this is made available when possible. Thank you! |

We are not quite certain if you want the charts to change or not change the Session Times when you change the instrument through the Quote Board. So here is what to do for each scenario. - To NOT change the Session Times when you change between instruments on the Quote Board, make sure the setting for Chart >> Chart Settings >> Session Times >> Apply Intraday Session Times to Intraday Chart to No. - To change the Session Times when you change between instruments, you need to set the same option as above to Yes. Then ensure the Session Times are as you want them in the Symbol Settings for each instrument. This way, when they are applied they are as you want them. Hi John, thank you for the quick response. I should have listed that as the first thing I tried, but it was implied that those charts were set up to be RTH charts. So that doesn't work. For the full session, yes- the 2nd suggestion works, I have the symbols set up to change according to custom times. Perhaps a bit of a chore, but if you try it using a quote board & a couple of symbols, you'll see what I mean. Just do it w/ a minute chart & try to keep the RTH only when you switch. It will always add the evening session. Thank you! |

This does not occur for me. If I have the setting for Chart >> Chart Settings >> Session Times >> Apply Intraday Session Times to Intraday Chart set to Yes and then modify the Symbol Settings to have the Evening Session set to No, then it works as expected where the session times are showing as they are set in the Symbol Settings. Good morning John: I spent some time with this over the weekend. It seems part of the problem is that in Symbol Settings, the default setting for 'Use Evening Session Times' for some symbols is 'no', & the default for the ES is 'yes'. I had them all set to 'yes'. So when setting them all to 'no', when switching symbols in a chartbook using the quoteboard, the charts all switched, & retained the Regular Trading Hours settings for each symbol. However, the problem is- only some charts need to be RTH, while some charts need to be extended session. So in troubleshooting this, I created a new symbol (for the ES) using the same settings except the 'Use Evening Session' set to 'no', & tried loading that symbol on the RTH charts. It only works if I name & list the symbol using the current front month symbol (not ES Day Session, or ES2)- although all the actual settings are the same as ES?#.CME (rithmic symbol). So what I get is either a symbol that won't load on the chart, or, if I name it acceptably- I get the settings for 'Use Evening Session Times' set to 'no' for all the charts in the chartbook again. So currently, the best solution at the moment is to be continually in the habit of manually toggling 'Use Evening/Full Session' in the respective chart via the context menu. That's really a pain & distracting. Creating a separate chartbook w/ charts always visible doesn't work either, as the same symbol settings are referenced, & the charts are being changed via the quoteboard. Can you suggest another workaround? We could go back to having separate chartbooks for each instrument, but one of the goals in switching instruments using the quoteboard was to maintain speed & efficiency on the machine. Please advise, & thank you! |

This link was helpful in narrowing down specifically the problem. In a chartbook with several charts (some using 24 hr sesssion times, some using RTH), to switch the symbol on the charts of the chartbook using a quote board with linked charts, does not work in keeping 2 kinds of session times for the respective charts using the methods explained in the link to the Global Symbol Settings. In further troubleshooting this for the desired result, the next step was to creats a 2nd quote board with the same list of symbols, & using a different number chart link for the RTH charts (there are less RTH charts than 24 hr). This requires clicking on the symbol in each quoteboard when switching between instruments, so that all the charts are on the same symbol. Not that big a deal; however, the new problem discovered is that the session hours will not change according to the individual instrument. For example, the 6E,CL, GC, ES, ZS- all have different Regular Trading hours, & the charts remain on the original instrument's symbol settings. (This is after using the instructions regarding symbol settings via global & chart settings & applying to new instances). The next solution has been this: 1) use the two quoteboard with same list of symbols, separate link # for each list 2) have all the global symbol settings set to use both RTH & Evening Sessions on all new instance 3) Once the charts have loaded, right click on all the charts where RTH is required, & uncheck "Use Evening/Full Session, which has been added to the context menu. These are a lot of steps, is one remaining problem. But the worse one is that it sometimes takes a bit of time to reload some of the charts, like an intraday Daily Bar chart, or a profile that started with the current front month. This makes flipping through instruments periodically a bit slow. Seems there ought to be an option to change instruments in a chartbook using a quoteboard, & assign the appropriate RTH hours to symbols on charts where only the RTH session is desired. |
