some of the charts got deleted from the chartbook when my computer crashed

i had about 12 charts for 5 symbols in a chartbook. today my computer crashed and when i started sierra again; 7 of my charts had disappeared. is there a way a recover those charts as i had notes on those charts going back more than a year. thank you ps i am using sierra version 784 Date Time Of Last Edit: 2013-07-10 18:52:54

i found the back up file for the chart book i was working on but the missing charts were not there either.

Try older backups of the Chartbook file.

there is only one file with the exact chart book name in the backup files; there is no other file with the exact chart book name showing in the back up list. so then i am not sure how to try older backups of the file. |

In running SC since about version 39 I have never had a chartbook that was saved and had been reopened at least once after SC was exited disappear. It sounds impossible for a crash to delete chartbooks so I'd suggest trying something different. Perhaps the books are not where you are looking? Try searching all of your disks for: 1. A recognizable segment of the name 2. *.cht 3. *.cbak 4. Be creative if that didn't show it. Perhaps something happened to your configuration and SC is looking in the "wrong" data directory. No idea - just that disappearing chartbooks has a bermuda triangle feel to it. I am assuming that this book was 1. Saved and 2. You had restarted SC at least once and were able to open it - if not it might never have actually been saved. Date Time Of Last Edit: 2013-07-11 00:45:30

If you have looked through the backup Chartbooks and neither them or the current Chartbooks have the charts that you need, then we have no further advice. We can tell you, that it makes no sense that once a Chartbook is saved, that charts are going to disappear from it even if there is a computer crash. Unless somehow the file became corrupted. In which case you should then go back to a system backup to recover a prior version of the Chartbook. You are responsible for making backups of your system. I've noticed one thing, it is, When you make changes to the global settings (eg chartbook to open on start-up).; and you then have a crash, that the settings are not flushed into a saved state until proper exit of the software.
